Less epic return that sets the stage for more

by -

Really enjoyed One Punch Man Season 1. Was hesitant to pick up Season 2 due to being panned by fans and receiving much criticism. The criticism is not without merit. To use a metaphor from the show: Season 1 was produced by a Class S animation studio whereas Season 2 was produced by a Class C animation studio.

The original Japanese voice cast return which is really nice. The show still retains most of the charm of the original, the humor is there. For a criticism it is overall less epic than Ssn 1. This more grounded approach works for some character aspects like developing King and Saitama's friendship and disclosing King's secret. There are season-long arcs introducing antagonist Garou and the Monster Association, which are developed but left unresolved with an inconclusive finale. Some other story threads carry over as well, e.g. results of SoS Sonic eating cooked monster cells. Rating is perhaps a little high, but I really like One Punch Man and want to see more animation.
