A must read!

by -

This book hit very close to home. Discussing not only sexuality, but mental illness as well (depression, anxiety, eating disorders). I feel like in some ways I could really relate to the author. So maybe that's why I enjoyed this manga so much. But even without relating to it, I think it'd be a great thing for anyone to read. It's a real story about one woman's struggles through life. The art isn't great, but the story more than makes up for it.

A memoir that bares it all

by -

"My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness" is one of those books that I find to be really good, but not exactly an enjoyable read all the way through. That kind of story that make you cringe while you read it, even more so when you come across one of those moments that hit a bit to close to home.
It's a very naked (no pun intend) and brutally honest memoir of the Author, Nagata Kabi, early adult hood and her struggle with depression, anxiety, and sexuality. Very much in the same vain as Craig Thompson "Blankets".
It is a uplifting story in the end, but not a book I can easily recommend to many, but is a book worth checking out.

Liberating.

by -

Im really glad i decided to just buy this book and read it. Its really really really scary how similar the authors life was compared to mine right now. To a T. Especially not knowing what they want to do in life and put their parents on a deity throne. By the end of this series i got a feeling of liberation. Almost as if my eyes were open to how to attempt to solve my issues. If you are looking for a great story (warning it is not a happy story) and how she is going to handle her life struggles then i can recommend a better one. You will cringe, you will get frustrated, the messages the author can convey is a bit confusing at times but with time you will get it. But thats all part of the journey, and i cant wait for her second book. (read this one in a day of a half)

Candid memoir about sexuality and depression

by -

This book has a lot more in common with something like Persepolis than what we typically think of manga--which really shows the breath of the medium. The mangaka is very open about her struggles with self-harm, depression, anxiety, a tricky relationship with her mom and her own sexuality, which makes this a read that can be a little raw--but it's well worth a read, and oddly uplifting by the end. The art is simple, but conveys the emotion the mangaka wants to share extremely well. Absolutely worth the read if you're interested in comics as art, or if you relate to the issues represented in the book.

Loneliness Never Felt More Relatable.

by -

Based on the title you would assume this is a story about coming out, but actually, the word you should be emphasized here is not 'lesbian,' but 'loneliness.'

This autobiography is so relatable. It's about anxiety, mental health, depression, those dark thoughts creeping in to ruin your life, and it does something with sex that is revolutionary. I won't spoil what their epiphany is, but it's something that is rarely talked about even in the West.

I loved this manga. The only complaint I can find is how short it is, but that's still a nitpick. Somehow, I felt seen, I was inspired, and I cried. I can't wait to dive into the other series.

Wonderful!

Fantastic, albeit short read. I want nothing but the best for the author, she deserves it. Truly moving stuff here!

Won't be able to bring myself to eat ramen for a while thanks to this book though...
