Excellent release of a not so excellent show.

Right Stuf has really been knocking these releases out of the park. It's just a shame that the source material isn't up to snuff.

V Gundam: The Universal Century Defined

by -

As I mentioned in my review of the first set, the transfer to HD is amazing on V Gundam. The animation is definitely 90s vintage, which I love. The entire show looks incredible. The story beats are very harsh and that may turn some off. I find it incredibly moving. The characters in the show all have significant depth including both strengths and flaws. By the end, Uso has become my favorite Gundam protagonist.

V Gundam succeeds in combining all of the elements of the Universal Century in one show: Newtypes, the horrors of war, and the effects of struggle on humanity are all present here. The Newtype concept is more nebulous than in other UC shows; the horrors of war have more emphasis than in other shows. Many characters die thoughout the series. Several of these deaths brought me to tears. I highly recommend this series to anyone interested in realistic war/robot shows.

The End of the Universal Century

by -

These last 25 episodes of Victory Gundam raise the stakes for those who are trying to end the war once and for all. As with other Gundam series this ends with a massive battle where all sides involved play their last gambits to either claim victory or defeat. This collection contains some of the darkest episode in Gundam history. Even so the series does end on a happy note with the surviving cast rebuilding their lives in peace. The only downside is that this was the last series made for the Universal Century.

Another win for RightStuf and Gundam Fans!

by -

Another great release by RightStuf. Production values for an older show are great and the story hums along during the second half of this show. It's one of Gundams darker series but it will keep you engaged all the way till the end.
