About Mobile Suit Gundam Wing The Glory of Losers Manga Volume 1

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: The Glory of Losers volume 1 features story and art by Katsuyuki Sumizawa, adapted by Tomofumi Ogasawara, and is based on the work of Yoshiyuki Tomino and Hajime Yadate.

In the year A.C. (After Colony) 195, humankind had flown its nest, the Earth, to search for new hope while living in space colonies. However, the United Earth Sphere Alliance has used its military might under the guise of “justice and peace” to seize control of some colonies, and those colonies have lost their autonomy and have been forced into silence. But the seeds of resistance have not been entirely crushed. “Operation Meteor” is about to take flight...

One of the biggest anime properties of all time returns with the release of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Following the actions of five fighters and their mobile suits, Gundam Wing is a heavily political, dramatic action work that is centered around a war between Earth and its surrounding colonies in space. Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers retells the original WING story by incorporating elements of the anime and its recent light novel adaptations.

Starts out as a decent adaptation

I grew up watching this on Toonami, and that nostalgia is still with me. I'm hoping this will turn into an enhanced Director's Cut of the story I already know so well.

Volume 1 is a reasonably faithful adaptation. Some scenes are mixed up, but everything is how I remember it more or less. The gundams look slightly off model from how they first appeared, and the lack of color and so many dynamic angles can make it hard to tell which one you're looking at sometimes. But once you get the hang of interpreting the battle scenes, they become a high point as they should be (no more repeating stock footage and animation).

You also get some hints at what new story they may be adding later on. Characters stop to remember conversations we've never seen and new faces pop up w/o introduction.

My only real criticism is that these volumes are pretty short compared to other manga I've bought.
