About Mobile Suit Gundam NT (Narrative) Special Edition Blu-ray

Mobile Suit Gundam NT (Narrative) Special Edition contains the anime movie directed by Toshikazu Yoshizawa, and includes an exclusive art booklet.

U.C. 0097… One year has passed since the contents of Laplace's Box were revealed to the world at the end of the conflict called the "Laplace Incident." Despite the revelation of the Universal Century Charter that acknowledges the existence and rights of Newtypes, the framework of the world has not been greatly altered.

Meanwhile, the Neo Zeon remnants known as the Sleeves have temporarily collapsed after the Laplace Incident, and their activities are at a standstill. And the two Unicorn Gundams, the mobile suits that played a leading role in the conflict, have been deemed dangerous and secretly sealed away because they displayed power beyond human understanding.

However, the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03, which disappeared two years earlier and was erased from history, has shown itself in the Earth Sphere once more. This machine called "Phenex" is the focus of many people's renewed activity. As well as the Earth Federation Forces and the Sleeves, Luio & Co, a huge corporation with strong connections to Anaheim Electronics, is involved in the struggle for the Phenex. As Luio & Co. deploys the new mobile suit Narrative Gundam, what is its true objective…?

Amazing Gundam Movie

by -

The special edition is incredible. Narrative’s book is a softcover containing 70-pages landscape printed. I was thoroughly impressed. The mechanical section is vast, has all of the nerdy specs, a written description, and some highly appealing pictures. I like that the interviews included in the book have different questions from the Blu ray. The book also includes an interview with the Japanese voice actors. The background artwork is very good. The sketch art is unique in the fact that it is in color. The Blu ray’s special features are actually immense, approximately an hour. I think the best part of this film is it explains newtype abilities. The cameos from Unicorn characters are really fun, but they don’t overshadow this film allowing Narrative to stand on its own. I highly recommend this film. Its fast, action packed, great visuals, and you don’t need any backstory to follow along. Spectacular color book, astounding features on the Blu ray, and cheap.

A little different, but still great!

by -

Gundam NT is more of character-driven story. While I feel the mobile suit designs and action weren't as impressive as perhaps Gundam Unicorn or Gundam Thunderbolt: Bandit Flower, it wasn't the mobile suits and the action that made this such a great watch. Don't get me wrong, the battles and mobile suit designs definitely weren't bad. The beauty of this movie is more so in its emotional, thought-provoking story, and that's what I think makes it unique. As there are so many Gundam stories created to enjoy, it's good to have some that are a little different.

I did feel the writers were pushing the newtype abilities to fantasy levels. In previous Gundam stories, newtype abilities seemed to be almost like a psionic ability awoken by humanity living in space that allowed people to have a sort of psychic communion, thereby allowing them to empathize with each other and understand each other better, so perhaps with such an ability war would cease.

If you're a Gundam fan, pick it up!
