End of a rivalry
by CAMERON -
This is it-- The final confrontation of the bitter rivalry that waved between bitter enemies and briefly allies -- has come to a conclusion after almost 15 years. With Char Aznable and Amuro Ray finally ending their long time rivalry as mobile suit pilots, and a stunning conclusion to Char's Counterattack.
As a longtime fan of the series, I actually have the first US DVD release of Char's Counterattack, however, the need to see this movie in Blu-Ray high definition has me excited to see how high-quality the picture is now.
An amazing movie that ends one of the great arcs of anime.

Rewind time back to 1999 as 10 year old comes home from school and flips on the TV as he does homework. He is mildly paying attention to whats on when something he hasn't seen before comes on. Enter the world of Gundam into my life.
This movie, completes the epic arc started in the original Mobile Suit Gundam which first aired in 1979. Set years after the One Year War, hero of that story Amuro Ray and villain turned ally turned misguided leader Char Aznable meet up once again on the battlefield to determine to future and direction that humanity will take.
The visuals here are probably the best of any Gundam before it and most after it and the story is just an amazing send off to these great characters. If you haven't watched any Gundam before, this may not be the most accessible story as it does require some previous knowledge of the Universal Century but it is well forth the investment.
The End of an Era in the Gundam universe
by ERIC -
One of the greatest rivalries in the Gundam universe comes to a close. Char's counterattack's story is completely designed around the final showdown between Char Azanable and Amuro Ray.
This film not only shows these two dynamic characters but also a new Gundam that is a huge evolution from the one featured in the original series and the original's sequel series.
However with these positives there are some negatives to this film. The story at times jumps from the perspective of various supporting characters. These different perspectives can be annoying at times and even seem unnecessary seemingly when the point of the story is the rivalry between Char and Amuro. This also slows the plot down at several points in the film. But overall I recommend this film for any Gundam fan.
a must buy for any gundam fan
this is how a gundam movie should always be like. though even i would admit it would get really dark at times for my liking, and at worse times reminds me too much of the zeta series, its basically what the UC era is all about. cant say it enough. this is an absolute must buy for any gundam fan let alone any anime fan in general.
A Gundam Staple
by Matty T
This movie is one of the greatest in the Gundam franchise. Set in the Universal Century, it has all the main characters you'll ever need. Not to mention it features some design from Hideaki Anno. This movie once was the great ending to the main story many different generations grew up with. And for those who saw it on adult swim as a kid, this movie will being back those great memories in nice and clean HD.
Beautiful and Esoteric

Char's Counterattack is meant to be the final word for the original one year war storyline. As such, it is not the thing to purchase and watch first. If you have no knowledge of the story revolving around Amaro and Char, I would highly recommend watching the Gundam motion picture films first. I personally first saw this film on a VHS fansub and found it to be beautiful and incomprehensible.
That having been said, this film is a real joy to watch. The animation is top notch and I am loving how well Right Stuf has done the conversion. This is some of the best hand drawn animation out there. If you love mecha, melodrama, and world ending plots, this anime is for you.
Quess Paraya Did Nothing Wrong

Great mech and ship designs. Just make sure you've got your Gundam history down, because this movie jumps in without introducing anyone or anything, so you gotta keep up. The character conflicts are excellent though and clearly built on what came before, growing more layered and interesting. Don't get too attached to anyone though; there are a lot of casualties in this war.
Gundam's Greatest Rivalry comes to a close.
In the ultimate battle between Amuro Ray, "The White Devil," and Char Aznable, "The Red Comet," the greatest rivalry to ever form comes to and end.
Armed with the unrivaled Nu Gundam, Amuro dashes to stop the impending fall of Axis onto Earth, and thwart Char's plans one last time for the sake of humanity.
This is easily the best Gundam film ever made. My only criticism is Kamille Bidan is entirely absent from the film, when we all know he should have been in the mix to help stop Char.
Otherwise, this is a masterpiece every Gundam fan should own.
Only watch if you must.

I felt the need to warn people. This movie I would say, is ONLY for those who just want to see everything in the Gundam UC universe.
The Audio and Video isn't bad. It's a older style animation so they could only do so much without doing a full remaster of it. The colors are good and the details are just fine. Its a true 16:9 aspect ratio so it will fill your screen too. But, it can get rather grainy in the backgrounds. This is most noticeable in the space scenes.
Story - This is where this thing falls straight on its face. I must have mentally blocked just how bad it was or I wouldn't have bought it...
Basically, Char's having another one of his temper tantrums and millions of people must die. I'm glad they finally portray just how pathetic Char is as a character in this.
The only 3 decent characters are Amuro, Chan Agi, and Gyunei Guss.
This movie does have some of my favorite MS's...for what that's worth though.
