Great Gundam Series!
by Bryan921
This is my favorite Gundam series so I am thrilled to see it finally out on Blu-ray! This and the 08th MS Team tell the tail of a more common non new type Gundam pilot. The fighting is more brutal and realistic and the suits really have a more realistic feel to them.
A review from an old fan
by JUSTIN -
I want to start by saying this is not a review of the anime so much as the blu ray buy. 0083 is easily a top 3 gundam so nothing new to say there.
The blu ray upgrade is a wonder to behold. Having the old dvd, 1st edition. I have watched it dozens of time and said why not.
The first thing that pops is the audio quality. It sounds like a fresh recording of the old music. It is a true event. Just wow. The sound is crisp and clear and begs to be turned up.
The picture is second to none as well. Looking back. It strikes me just how honestly cheap quality this bandai original set. And this quality set is clear.
Buy any Gundam Series with the Number "8" in the title...
by GeorgeC
I have a rule --
Any Gundam series that has the number "8" is going to be a good one!
This is the one of the best Gundam series made and the longest, probably most-expensive OVA made by Sunrise in the series.
It shows. The mecha combat is well-animated and there are many twists and turns in the plot.
Yes, it's a rehash of the basic lot of the original Gundam (which has been recycled AT LEAST 6 times by my count) BUT it's executed better here, it's more taut, and doesn't waste as much time on melodrama.
There IS the obligatory melodrama but considering the double-dealing of Anaheim Electronics (and many, many companies in reality) and the way people's paths cross in real life, it's not that hard to buy.
I have the old Bandai DVDs. This Blu ray is on my to-buy list for the next year!
Lt. Monsha is a drunk and should face court martial!

My favorite Gundam series! I love everything about this one: characters, music, mech/ship designs, and the plot and ideas about the murkiness of war. The comedy is great, the drama is great, the love story is great. The sax solo on the first half OP The Winner is GREAT!!! The animation and voicework are leaps and bounds beyond what came before. A must watch.
Gundam 0083

Gundam 0083 was the series that got me into Gundam. I'm really grateful the RightStuf released it on Blu-ray and the production is amazing.
Nice sounding, not so nice looking
by Aokusa
Just received a copy of it in the mail from Amazon. Audio quality is nice, picture quality is not. While it is cleaned up for sure, there is color banding all over the place. I feel like I'm watching a bootleg video file or something. Unacceptable for Blu Ray. I don't know if the original JP release had this as well but it's really bad here. It also looks like the brightness settings for it are all out of whack. Rightstuf's release of the MSG Movies were superb so I know they are capable of good release, this just really isn't one.
The addition of the shorts and the movie compilation are the reasons this gets a 3 instead of a 2 or 1. Having those on an official release with official subs is a great addition.
Great 90's mech anime
by John134
This series had got a lot of praise in the reviews I read. It did not disappoint. Great action sequences and great animation! The plot is engaging and gets more intense as continues to the finale. I've watched gundam since gundam wing first came on toonami. This is one of the best I've seen.
A must watch for all Gundam fans

Box - The case is a normal Blu-ray case with a 3 tray disc slot inside and none of the disc came loose while shipping. The cover is a single sided print. So no reversible sleeve.
Audio/Video - The Dubbing in this anime is done really well. So if you prefer to watch in Dub its differently a big plus. You also get the original Japanese voices with the option for English subtitles. The animation is simply superb in this series. This kind of animation is some of my favorite. So much detail. The colors are all nicely represented aswell.
However, This is not a full HD release. So you are stuck with the old 4x6 aspect ratio. Meaning you will have to deal with those black bars on the side.
Anime - The plot revolves around a group of Federation test pilots. Who must chase after Zion after they steal one of their new Mobile Suits. Without giving too much information away. I will just say, This series does a fantastic job at portraying the costs of war.
I'VE GOT A BURNING HEART

I love this series. Affectionately known as "Top Gundam", this is what happens when Gundam meets Macross, both in character design and in plot.
I'll be honest, the plot and character arcs can be a bit uneven in places, but the overall package is great.
I picked this edition up and was very excited to finally see the Mayfly of Space audio/picture dramas. Just a warning, don't get yourself too revved up for them -- they're very brief, and honestly the summaries I'd read made them make more sense than they would have on their own.
However, the video and audio is amazing, as all the HD remasters of Gundam have been. Definitely recommend!
Solid Gundam series.
by Lomax
Obviously, more expensive than the option that isn't compatible with blu-ray.
If wrestling with the realities of war and intellectual considerations are more important to you than action, mobile suit battling and suspenseful plot, this may not be your favorite Gundam series, but nevertheless it is a very well done space epic. Solid characters, enticing plot.
One of the best Gundam series
by Christopher -
This is a great looking version of an excellent entry in the Gundam saga. The story is generally great although drags a bit in the middle. The chief conflict though is engaging and has some of the best combat scenes of any series. The blu-ray is a great upgrade over previous releases of the series.
Favorite Universal Century Gundam Story
by MKY
Got it on sale, as my old DVDs tended to look foggy/blurry with the red colors in the anime; especially the Zeon flagship. Great seeing in 1080p / 4:3 format in either 2.0 or 5.1 audio.
One of the best Gundam series showcasing the theft of Gundam GP02 (with nuclear warheads) by Zeon pilot Gato. The pursuit by Federation forces to recover said GP02, led by pilot Kou in another prototype, the Gundam GP01. In addition, it's a complicated love story involving Nina (Chief Designer of both Gundam Prototypes), who helps Kou become accustomed to the GP01, and the past relationship she had with Gato that creates the ultimate showdown between both pilots.
Gato piloting the Neue Zael was one thing, but the appearance of Kou in the two-stage RX-78GP03S 'Stamen" combined with the 'Orchis' Dendrobium AKA 'Space Stronghold Defensive Platform' Gundam Unit was impressive. The 360 degree panoramic view screen in the cockpit during battle alone is must see animation in my opinion.
