Great Read!

The art is beautiful, the characters are very funny and lovable, and the manga as a whole is fantastic and absolutely worth the read. Mieruko-chan is one of the best mangas I've read recently!

A great interpretation of cute and spooky!

by -

This manga has a rather fun and unique take on the supernatural. Mieruko, a rather ordinary girl, has a strange gift of seeing spirits that supposedly nobody else can. Various encounters, variety of fixes and other odds and ends keep the story interesting as well as mysterious.

The contrast between the serene things she (and you) are used to and the ghoulish appearance of the numerous spirits is something that makes the whole experience almost surreal. Moments of adorable nature give a good break from the harrowing scenes of some things while also providing a nice blend to keep on reading.

I absolutely love the characterization between Mieruko and her best friend along with her own internal perils. It's a wonderful read and I can't wait to grab the next volumes to come! If you're at all interested in an ordinary girl being faced with something of the unknown, this might just be up your alley!

Fanservice? Check. Horrific monsters? Check.

I absolutely love this story! It’s like Junji Ito meets moe—horrific monsters opposite adorable character designs. The story and set-up itself is engrossing and Izumi manages to use this interesting take he’s created to keep the story going.

A slice of life with demons

by

Miko sees demons that are invisible to everyone except for her. The way she navigates around them is to act like she can’t see them. This manga is good at creating tension. Watching Miko have to constantly ignore demons only inches from her face is actually terrifying. The art is also genius and is initially what drew me in, it mixes stereotypical looking anime girls with nightmarish creatures. The disappointing part for me is the storyline, since it basically doesn’t exist. The story follows a slice of life format where the characters are just hanging out without much of a larger goal in mind. Personally I’m not a fan of SOL so I wish I knew that going in. The comedy also fell short for me. The story started picking up a bit towards the middle but it was only to deliver a punch line at the end which ruined what could have been a genuinely interesting direction for the story. Overall there is still a lot of potential for this series so I’ll probably give the second manga a shot.

Hooked

Amazing artwork. The story isn't anything special, but it leaves the mystery of why she can see ghost, and why do ghost get attracted to a certain someone close to the protagonist. I can't wait to see where the story goes.

Great for people who like spooky stuff but don’t like to be scared

by

Mieruko-Chan is a really relatable series about hoping your problems will go away if you ignore them (except her problem is seeing ghosts). I love how the manga art style looks next to the super detailed horror illustrations. While some of the monster designs are horrifying, the overall tone of the story makes it not very scary. I took a point off for the unnecessary “fan-service” (there’s A LOT of it) because I feel that it took away from the story too much.

I would suggest this to readers at least age 16 and up due to the goriness of the ghosts and “fan-service”!
