Not Your Mommy's Magical Girls
High-schooler Kii Kogami is stuck in a rut, loathing the monotonous doldrums of his everyday life. If only something exciting were to happen, something magical. As fate would have it, Kii is about to get his wish, but in a way more terrifying than anything he could have imagined.
When a little girl clad in gothic lolita attire appears at school and starts to gruesomely bludgeon, dismember, and mutilate all who cross her path, while chanting the mantra "Magical Girl" under her breath, the school devolves into a state of bloody chaos.
Just how will Kii escape from this murderous magical girl? To make matters worse, the magical girl's victims reanimate and join her killer rampage. Is there no way out of school for hapless Kii Kogami? And even if he escapes, what will be left of the world outside?

Quite truthfully this feels like every other zombie survival story out there except with grostique magical girls. My main problem is how unrealistic some bodies move and deaths happen. Rigor mortis doesn't happen immediately! This one ends with a cliff hanger but this volume as a stand alone seems like an excuse just to draw as much death as possible. Buy only if you like a lot of gore.
Not your typical "Mahou Shoujo"

Don't let the title misguide you, this is not the typical "high school girl gets powers" story. In fact, this is more of a zombie apocalypse horror manga and it's great at that. It has everything, form bloodstained action sequences to intricate plot twist, and that's what makes this series so unique.
As always Seven Seas won't disappoint you, the quality of the book is top-notch both in the translation and the product itself.
Not a manga for everyone but definitely worth reading.
Not for the squeamish.
This is a hard series to judge on its first volume. I've read through volume six so far and the story does develop beyond what you get here. It gets much more interesting if a bit convoluted. Unfortunately it's difficult to explain too much without giving major spoilers, but it does keep you guessing and throws in some surprises along the way. There is some nudity in it, but the major thing is the graphic violence. If that kind of thing bothers you then this is NOT something to add to your reading list. In this volume alone there are exploded heads, people getting dismembered and other deaths far more gruesome than those.
