A great release for fans who want to check out what pink jacket Lupin could be like

by -

Before watching this film, I had never seen any pink-jacket Lupin. Even so, I very much enjoyed watching it. The new dub, featuring the voices from Part 2 & part 5 of the series, helped make this version of Lupin feel more like the stuff I have seen.
Included on the disc is a liner notes feature that helped explain some translation choices, as well as some other things, that helped improve my enjoyment of the film.
If you are a big fan of the Lupin the Third franchise, make sure to check this out!

One of the few anime features that got better for me the SECOND TIME

by -

Lupin III has always had a weird design style and for many people this will look more like an Italian/Spanish animated film than Japanese. I first saw this feature over 10 years ago and wasn't as enthusiastic about it as Fuma Conspiracy or the other Lupin III features I had seen it at that time.
My mind has changed. With the help of the new dub featuring the Lupin Pioneer cast, it's easier to appreciate this film for what it is -- an absurdist action film featuriing some of the best animated Lupin chase and stunt sequences.
Yes, it has a twist that makes it feel like "Ancient Aliens" instead of an Indy feature which is more appropriate for Lupin but stick with it and just enjoy the ride with our old friends! Here's hoping more of the Lupin features get restored and released to Blu ray with the classic dub cast!

A Cult Lupin Adventure

A fun and bizarre romp with the Lupin gang with a production history just as interesting as the film itself a definite must watch for fans of Lupin The Third.

Simple, Cartoony Lupin Fun

by

The most unhinged Lupin film, in a good way. A ton of fun to watch with really solid animation/art and music all around. If you don't mind your Lupin being on the more "Looney Tunes" end of the spectrum, absolutely give this obscure and underappreciated gem a shot!

Fun for some, not for me

by -

I personally didn’t care for this. The story wasn’t that interesting, the art style wasn’t consistent, and the tone is in line with looney tunes. The Blu-ray has a few extras but nothing special. The video quality was good and there’s a new dub by the cast of part iv. Overall only for lupin part III fans or the hardcore.

Prime Pink Jacket, One of my favorites.

by -

Probably one of my favorite Lupin III movies. Based on the pink jacket 80's era Lupin with unique cartoony animation included that was used later on in the part 3 anime. This iteration of Lupin calls back a lot of Monkey Punch's version of Lupin and, his Tom and Jerry relationship he shares with his rival Inspector Zenigatta.
Although I personally think that many anime only watchers especially those who come of the heels of parts 4 & 5 might find this movie with it's wacky animation style a lot more abrasive.
The plot is zany, it gets better with every consecutive watch. I recommend for hardcore fans and those willing to give this side of the gentlemen thief a try.

A funny and entertaining Lupin adventure (4.5/5)

by -

When it started I knew I was gonna enjoy this one from the older artstyle to the slapstick humor of classic Lupin. It’s funny, never lost my interest, and Hitler is in it once again. The story can be a bit all over and it doesn’t quite feel like a movie. There’s a lot of stuff that happens and it’s more episodic. As much as I enjoyed the majority of it, near the end it felt like this movie dragged on a little. Looking back, some scenes kinda went on a bit too much and this movie felt longer then it was. I feel like this movie could’ve been like 10-20 minutes shorter. And I will say, the ending is kind weird and off putting. Just never thought I’d see that in a Lupin movie. To make it better, I would’ve liked more backstory and explanation to the mythology and at least some kind of after credits scene to wrap up loose ends. But in the end, I enjoyed this one. If you want a more funny and entertaining Lupin adventure, I’d recommend this one. 4.5/5
