The Last Job
by Dylan -
As far as Lupin TV Specials go it’s pretty good. It was the last we would see of veteran actors Goro Naya as Inspector Zenigata, Eiko Masuyama as Fujiko Mine, and Makio Inoue as Goemon Ishikawa. The soundtrack is top notch; one of the best in all of Lupin’s history.
This blu-ray is an upscale. The special was originally created in Standard Definition 480p. I’m surprised Discotek Media didn’t do a DVD release. I’m no expert on the matter but the 1080p upscaling looks good.
The audio cut out a few times while watching but only for a second each time. Noticeable but not a major issue. Maybe only an issue with my disc. Would like to hear if anyone else had a similar experience.
What you can expect from a Lupin III Special

First off Discotek Media does a fantastic job bringing these specials both back to life but also to the Western audience. I also like the fact they put the year on the blueray sleeve and the # of the special so that if you bought any of the other Lupin Special bluerays/DvDs from them you can line them up in order. They also come with reversible cover art although it's just the cover are but double wide.
This wasn't my favorite of the TV specials but it was pretty enjoyable no less. It follows the standard Lupin formula as expected if you're used to watching a lot of Lupin III. The twist was rather predicable, some of the plot's continuity was off. Yet most of the standard slapstick humour did make me smile or chuckle, except for one gag was just cringe inducing toilet humour. I hope to see more if not all the Specials come to the West.
