A Colorful Mix of the Gritty, Nudity, and the Comical

by -

This is the Lupin serial considered the least popular release of our characters by critics. How wrong they are, as after viewing this anime, I consider this totally worth the price based on its creative presentation.

Basically, the show looked uneven and inconsistent to viewers, but that's because animation artists were allowed full autonomy with the artwork. The result, is a series that showcases three distinct 'art styles' in the show. You'll see a grittier Lupin as in the manga books, then a Lupin as seen from the first/second season TV serials, and lastly, a comical version of Lupin that's totally cartoony.

While I liked this BD, others may have issues with the many nude scenes of Fujiko Mine, as well as other voluptuous women that appear within, which likely explains its long hiatus until now. Even better, is that this BD is the re-mastered version with added vibrant color, and with the numerous 'splicing' errors cleaned up. Enjoy in 1080p / 4:3 format.

Surprisingly good! Don't judge this book by its cover!

by -

AT this time, I've watched the first 26 episodes of series and it is VERY good! A lot of people judge it by its graphics and let's admit this -- this is NOT the best looking Lupin TV series. However, the stories and pacing are tight and the animation is surprisingly good. The style is like Legend of the Gold of Babylon so if you've seen that you know what to expect.
This may look like Italian animation but it is 100% pure Lupin. If you liked Part 2 or Part 4, I think you'll enjoy Part 3 as well. For me, Lupin Part 1 was by far the worst series to sit through. It was dull, dreary, and didn't feel like the post-1977 Lupin I was used to. I never finished Part 1!
Besides good scripts, our cast is as fresh as ever and the theme song for Part 3 is memorable. It is NOT a rehash of Lupin '78 but an entirely new theme song with excellent lyrics.
The negative part: sub-only, no English dub for this series. The rest is all gravy and premium Lupin.
