About Lupin the 3rd Part I Blu-ray

Lupin the 3rd Part I Blu-ray contains episodes 1-23 of the anime directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

With a brand new HD remaster and English dub!

Hard-boiled, cocky, classy and silly. These words only begin to describe the amazing master thief Lupin the Third. With the help of some quick gunplay by his partner Jigen, Lupin takes on the world in elaborate heists, classic car chases, and nasty explosions. Fujiko, a buxom redhead with a penchant for betrayal, always gets tangled up in Lupin's capers. The stoic but swift swordsman Goemon is just as inclined to kill Lupin as he is to help him. And Lupin can never seem to lose the relentless Tokyo Police Inspector Zenigata. What sort of trouble will this band of misfits get into next?

Featuring episodes directed by Studio Ghibli founders Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki, this collection includes all 23 episodes of the original Lupin the 3rd TV series! With the original Japanese language, English subtitles, and the brand new English dub!

Long Live Lupin!

by -

Finally, we receive the original classic episodes for Lupin and the gang in a brilliant upscaled remaster on blu-ray with a fantastic English dub. Start at the beginning and be introduced to the gang again - or for the first time! The general consumer beware this is an old 70’s cartoon, so themes and art styles aren’t the most politically correct. The quality of the 3-disc set is sturdy, looks really clean and includes a reversible cover! Please support this release so they work on Part II next!

Beautifully Restored with Rare Production Images/Gallery Section

by -

As usual, Discotek has totally corrected the many imperfections in this re-mastered BD, even the dust spots are completely removed here, and produced from the original 35mm film reels.

What really makes this BD highly recommended is the 'EXTRAS' section featured in this release. There are over 200 pages of liner notes, a gallery of B&W/Color production artwork of the Characters, Vehicles, Weapons, and Location/Background artwork...including a couple of bare-skinned images of Fujiko Mine as well! There's also a section of 'Essays' on Miyazaki and other creators work on this TV series.

The major differences besides re-mastering and extras: a new English Dub, the old Lupin DVD featuring the "Original Pilot Film" is missing in this BD release, so hang on to your old DVD as I have. My guess is that Discotek couldn't find the original 35mm reel of the pilot film, or might have been due to licensing rights issues for this BD release.

Either way, enjoy in 1080p / 4:3 format.
