Even the expert Inspector Zenigata can't seem to track down his rival. From among the rabble rises one ambitious, green-jacketed Lupin imitator named Yasuo. He challenges the man himself to swipe the mysterious treasure Ice Cube and earn the title of "the real Lupin the Third"!

The Most Philosophical Lupin

This 40th anniversary OVA is a testament to the Lupin III franchise's staying power. This OVA is remarkably animated, and for once, you don't know the plot twist before hand as opposed to the easily guessed plots of several TV specials. Lupin arrested for shoplifting?! Countless numbers of Lupin driving recklessly through the streets of Japan?! And that's only in the first few minutes! The only downside is that there is no English language track, but if you can look beyond that, you will find that this a highly entertaining adventure.
Say what you will about the script, this OVA has THE BEST Lupin Opening!!!

I've read my share of critiques of G V R. I sometimes wonder if some people CAN'T ever shut off their brains and just enjoy things!
The basic plot is "What if Lupin III decided to retire? Who will take over?" and it goes from there. Many people also write off this OVA because it doesn't have an English dub!
We have another another IMHO Lupin III installment. For a few voice cast members, they're about 2-3 features or OVAs from retirement -- that includes the great Eiko Masuyama, the original voice of Cutie Honey and THE DEFINITIVE Fujiko Mine.
This isn't about her or Fujiko, though.
This is about THAT GREAT INTRO SEQUENCE where the real Lupin and a million of his imposters are shown running from the cops to the classic Lupin III theme. It's hilarious to see them reuse old Lupin III models while showing the "real Lupin" in the middle of the action surrounded by a ton of imposters who look NOTHING LIKE HIM!!! LOL
It has to be seen to be appreciated!
