A Quality Release of an Exciting Film

by -

This fast-moving, funny, totally enjoyable straight-to-video movie is the Lupin franchise at its most fun. The emphasis may be on the stoic samurai Goemon, but the story stays constantly in exciting, enthusiastic motion. We follow Lupin and his gang of affable ruffians as they do battle with ninjas, dodge fatal traps in an underground cavern, and (best of all) elude the police in breakneck, hilarious car chases that take them through marketplaces, over rickety bridges, across the countryside, and even indoors, up the staircases and along the corridors of a resort. For pure entertainment value, action comedies don't get much better than this.

The superb video quality on Discotek's remastered DVD showcases the film's excellent animation beautifully. This is the best release around--it even comes in a green case, matching the color of Lupin's jacket.

One of the best Lupin III movies

by

I forget if this was direct-to-video film, or a TV special... Regardless, it's one of the best Lupin III movies.

It starts on the eve of Goemon's wedding -- yes, he found time to have a relationship! -- and goes down from there as the crew struggles to save Goemon's kidnapped betrothed.

This film is controversial in Japan because they replaced the regular voice actors. Lupin III for this film was voiced by the same guy who played Ataru Moroboshi in the Urusei Yatsura series but you hardly notice the vocal changes because you're paying more attention to the action in this film -- and is it action-packed and well-animated!

At this time, Fuma Conspiracy is out of print but hopefully it will receive a well-deserved hi-def remaster and we'll get it on Blu ray sometime in the near future.

Lupin III does NOT begin and end with Castle of Cagliostro, guys! In some ways, I like this film better than that one!
