Lupin meets the gang for the first time!

Are you a Lupin the Third fan and always wondered how the Lupin gang got together? Then this Lupin TV special is for you! Lupin is on a heist in New York where he meets Jigen, Fujiko, Goemon, and Zenigata for the first time. This is a fun, entertaining story filled with criminal heists, action, and humor. It’s a good blend of serious storytelling mixed with that goofy Lupin humor. The animation is great and the characters and city landscapes look amazing. This is a more modern version of the first meeting of the main Lupin characters and would fit in great with the newer Lupin TV series, Lupin the Third Part 4 and 5. This Blu-ray release also uses the classic English dub cast from those series which I know many fans look forward to hearing. If you’re a Lupin fan then this TV special is definitely one you’ll want to add to your collection!
Meet the Lupin Gang Again... For the First Time!

I consider Lupin III: Episode 0: First Contact to be the platonic ideal of a Lupin special. Everything is in perfect measure. It has just the right amount of action, levity, sexiness, brashness, and atmosphere. Taking place in New York City, it tells the story of how Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, Fujiko, and Zenigata first encountered each other. It's a great place to jump on for newcomers to the franchise and yet also amazing for longtime fans who will pick up on the references to previous adaptations. But what makes this the best of the TV specials is the character balance. There's just the right amount of every main character.
Discotek put out a great disc, complete with a brand new (and fantastic) English dubbed version starring Tony Oliver, Richard Epcar, Lex Lang, Michelle Ruff, and Doug Erholtz. There's also a commentary track by Lupin III expert Reed Nelson, always a welcomed addition.
Make this Blu-Ray a part of your anime collection!
A great origin story for the Lupin crew!

I came into this movie with no expectations, having seen no trailer or promotional material other than the cover art and was very much satisfied by the intriguing story told through the perspective of one of the characters. I loved the dub cast as the OG part two actors always give a great performance and the newer actor who portrays Zenigata is a treat as well. The animation looks superb in this blu-ray release and really highlights all the gorgeous scenery and action sequences throughout. All in all I'd definitely give this another watch for sure!
