Lupin The 3rd The Castle of Cagliostro is an anime film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, presented in 4K UltraHD HDR format. It includes the 1992 Streamline English dub, the 2000 Manga Entertainment English dub, and the 2000 Family Friendly English dub, as well as an all-new English subtitle translation and a restoration of the 1980 theatrical subtitles.

*This is an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc created for 4K HDR viewing. It will require a special Ultra HD 4K Blu-Ray player (will not play on a standard Blu-Ray player.) For the complete experience you'll need:

  • 4K Ultra HD TV with HDR (High Dynamic Range)
  • HIGH-SPEED HDMI (CATEGORY 2 or higher) CABLE
  • Lupin the Third: Castle of Cagliostro, the feature film debut of Academy Award-winning anime creator Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service), makes it's gallant return to home video with more special features and a better transfer than ever before!

In the twilight of his career, master thief Lupin the Third's latest and greatest caper has hit a snag. What should've been bags of cash from a national casino turns out to be expert counterfeits! Together with his partner-in-crime Jigen, Lupin heads to the remote European nation of Cagliostro to exact revenge. Not everything goes as planned; the two encounter Clarisse, a royal damsel in distress being forced to marry the sinister Count Cagliostro against her will. Saving her won't be easy, however, as Lupin and Jigen -- together with Lupin's unpredictable ex-girlfriend Fujiko and the swordsman Goemon -- must fight their way through a trap-filled castle, a deadly dungeon, and an army of professional assassins! Can Lupin rescue the girl, evade the cuffs of his ling-time nemesis Inspector Zenigata, and uncover the secret treasures of The Castle of Cagliostro?

    Excellent 4K Release

    by -

One of my top 5 favorite anime movies of all time. For Discotek's 4K release there is a visual improvement over Discotek's Blu-Ray release of the film in how the colors are brighter than before; mind you Discotek's Blu-ray release is visually stunning as well. If you have a 4K TV and an 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray player I recommend getting Discotek's 4K release over the Blu-ray release. At the end of the day whatever format you choose you will have a great time watching this classic.

    Must Own for Fans!

It has never looked better than on 4K HDR. It includes all the different dubbed versions throughout the years. I own it on dvd and bluray, and it was worth getting it on 4K. Must own for fans.

    Classic film

I'm still a little new to anime, but this movie proved to be incredibly entertaining. Great visuals, lovable characters, great chemistry, the jokes hit. I appreciate that they didn't turn the princess into just a series of sex gags, it makes the story feel much more real and grounded.

    5-Star animated materpiece, 1-Star textureless 4K disc

    by -

This is a superb film and I love the Lupin III in general. And in fairness, this disc has a ton of audio options which is really nice for anyone who has a favorite dub.

But this is not the disc this film deserves. Quick background; I've reviewed home video for a reputable film site for many years, including a column dedicated to comparing image quality of different disc editions. I own hundreds of 4K discs.

Which is preface to say: This 4K UHD disc of CAGLIOSTRO is the worst 4K transfer I've ever seen. I was very excited to watch it, but excitement soon turned to anger. All semblance of textural nuance and fine line work has been completely obliterated with extremely overzealous DNR/smoothing. Fine details reduced to indiscernible blobs. It literally looks better via the streaming version, and I don't mean that offhandedly - I actually compared them.

I don't own the Blu-ray edition, but I've heard it does not suffer these issues. Maybe advisable to grab that instead.
