Your Friendly Neighborhood Stalker

by -

This series has a few things that don't make a ton of sense if you think about them really hard, but they make enough sense for one to be able to continue reading and ignore them.

I personally enjoyed this first volume quite a bit. It was cute and sweet, but also dark and a tad creepy during some parts. I'm excited to see where this story goes, as I love a good yandere/stalker boy. I found this to be a decently strong first volume, and I'll definitely be reading more to find out what's going on with the main characters.

I definitely recommend this if you like mysterious (and stalker-ish) manga boys with tragic pasts.

Yandere male villain meets girl next door heroine

So, I don't really consider myself a shojo person. That said, I really enjoyed this one (just finished volume 4, and it continues to be very entertaining).

The premise: Competent, arguably kind-of-emotionally-unbalanced guy meets girl-next-door and seeks to manipulate her into reciprocating his obsessive love.

Story is told from multiple points of view (mostly hers and his, but some secondary characters get sections from their POV). Good mix of comedy and drama/romance. Art is well done; translation is well done. Romantic tension is surprisingly well done (despite him being fixated from the beginning).

If you're looking for a girl-power sort of book, or a wholesome/healthy vanilla romance, this series probably isn't a good fit.

I'd recommend this to those who enjoy the devoted male yandere archetype and/or the 'villain as love interest' trope.
