More than just a great isekai, it's great fantasy in general.

This is an isekai novel, but before that drives you away just know that it's an extremely well executed isekai series. The characters are interesting, even if not perfect, and the world is really well fleshed out. In fact, the world's the most interesting part, as the characters learn more about the world and their relationship to it. I definitely recommend it as my favorite isekai out there.
For fans of the anime series - the anime seems pretty faithful, but you'll notice that things are more fleshed out (of course, given its format and ability for more introspection), and that some things happen in different orders. It doesn't really make that much of a difference, but maybe worth noting. Anyway, absolutely get this if you like the anime at all.
