Unsure of how he feels about dating a man, Theo accepts Camilo’s offer of a trial run at dating, and with a little liquid courage and a lot of heavy petty, Theo sees a whole new side to his childhood friend. Absolutely Adorable

Can I just say, that I love Ranmaru Zariya's work. And this is not exception, from start to finish everything about the two main characters caught my attention. Basically you have two men, Theo who runs the local liquor store and Camilo who operates the Tobacco store who are best friends. They have been friends since grade school, but along the way Camilo developed feelings for his best friend and waited for an opportunity for Theo to either realize his feelings or catch up. It takes a lot of liquid courage and the scent of Camilo's cigarettes for Theo to come to terms with his feelings for his childhood friend.

Ranmaru, you did it again , perfect and flawless

Wow, not only was it safe arriving to my house but, it burned me up when I finished reading it. I don't know why, but Ranmaru just knows how to make someone in love and invested with the character. For me, I love it when a mangaka can convenice me that their artwork is beautiful even it is not like other yaoi artwork. It is definitely a keeper, and it is best to continue ordering from Righstuf.

Perfect

Super wonderful. This mangaka also does "Coyote". I absolutely love her art and the characters she develops. The story is cute and I love the town they live in. It's a cute story and told at a nice, fun pace. I thoroughly enjoyed.

It's kind of like Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, only not as bleak.

I'm probably the only fudanshi who majored in English and will thus make this connection, but even though it's not 1:1, I still couldn't avoid making comparisons. Both set in Spain, taking place around an important festival, with lovers facing significant obstacles to their relationship, surrounded by a group of disaffected friends. The difference, though, is that Liquor & Cigarettes decidedly ends more happily than The Sun Also Rises, and depending on one's feelings on Hemingway, is also an easier read.

The story is perhaps a slower burn, at least compared to other yaoi one shots I've read recently, but it's still wonderful, and obviously Zariya's art is exquisite. Plus, while we do have the stereotypical "I didn't know I was gay until I met him" protagonist, the love interest is openly bisexual, which is a rarity at best. Hooray for bi representation! Recommended for yaoi fans, especially if they wish their college literature classes had been a bit gayer.

When friends become lovers!

This is such a great story of friendship that develops into something much more. I really enjoyed the artwork and setting of this manga. Camilo and Theo both had such great character development and I honestly loved seeing the entire progression of their relationship from childhood friends to becoming much more.
