Sci-fi essential

by -

If you're a fan of sci-fi and good literature, you need to pick this book up. It's Heinlein tier writing.

Good Read

This is a good read, particularly for sci-fi fans, to whom I say: there is no reason not to check this out. If you're turned off by sci-fi or military drama, then it is probably not for you. However, if you could go either way, or care more about a good character-driven drama than whatever the setting happens to be, then it is worth your consideration. The history is cool and well-fleshed out and the key characters are compelling.

A Fantastic Space Opera

Wow, was I glad I read this!

Intertwined with politics, the philosophy of war, the cost of war, and with no clear or concise villains (there are horrid characters on both sides), the motives behind each character (in this case, Yang, and Reinhard who are indeed heroes of their perspective military's they lead) they are indeed legends and heroes.

Told in both a fast action pace and taking it's time when need be, the author (and I will say translation, although I do not read or speak Japanese) was phenomenal.

A key line (which I am paraphrasing here) that I completely adore, from Yang: "Would it have been better if I had lost 13,000 men and failed in capturing that fortress and thus would have denied us to partake in this failed invasion which now cost us ten million lives?"

That line summarizes the quagmire that the heroes partake as politics yearns for war, but the cost of it becomes to grand and ever apparent for those that see it in the front lines.
