About Land of the Lustrous Manga Volume 1

Land of the Lustrous volume 1 features story and art by Haruko Ichikawa.

In a world inhabited by crystalline lifeforms called The Lustrous, every unique gem must fight for their way of life against the threat of lunarians who would turn them into decorations. Phosphophyllite, the most fragile and brittle of gems, longs to join the battle. When Phos is instead assigned to complete a natural history of their world, it sounds like a dull and pointless task. But this new job brings Phos into contact with Cinnabar, a gem forced to live in isolation. Can Phos’s seemingly mundane assignment lead both Phos and Cinnabar to the fulfillment they desire?

An elegant new action manga for fans of Sailor Moon from Haruko Ichikawa, winner of the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize.

Great Art, Fun Action, Memorable Characters, And Some Laughs!

by -

All around very well done. The story is interesting, the characters develop nicely (through multiple volumes) and you really get stuck on the art. Well done!! This one should absolutely be part of your collection. Or at least borrow it from someone, it should be read.

Unique, beautiful, and interesting start

I really did enjoy this first volume. Some of the art is just amazing. I like Pho as a character and I am really wanting to keep reading so I can see where everything goes. But I do feel that, at times, the art (especially in the action scenes) is VERY hard to follow. I find that the anime is able to better take advantage of the fight scenes while the manga it gets confusing. But, this is a worth while read.

Beautiful Art and Interesting Story

by -

This manga is full of beautiful art that is sometimes simplistic on the outside but has a unique feel of elegance that makes this art style unique. This is a must read for those who watched the anime as the presentation is unique enough to warrant a read. My favorite part of this story is how interesting and mysterious it is, and the reader is always finding new things about the world without necessarily being told outright.

Intriguing Story and Wonderful Art

by -

Ichikawa does a beautiful job at setting the stage for her unique characters and stunning but desolate world. The story grabbed me right off the bat and I can say that it only gets better as the series progresses. I would definitely recommend picking this up and giving it a try!

A Wonderfully Refreshing Series

by -

Wow how do i start, this series has a very intriguing beginning that only builds into an incredibly well done action series. I have to admit i was very hesitant to pick up this series, but i was not disappointed whatsoever! I would certainly recommend this to anyone who has a soft spot for series that don't give very much context. As this series grows you get to see the characters dramatically change in such beautifully ways that almost everyone i know was blown away by. And don't even get me started with the art, some panels are absolutely STUNNING.

Pretty good manga

This manga was pretty good, book itself came in great condition, and the story line was very interesting. I would recommend this series based on the three volumes I read.

An Intriguing and Unique Story

by -

I was curious when I first found this story. It was during one of the sales for Right Stuf so I decided to try it out and see if I like it. After reading through the story, it got me intrigued on where the story was going so I decided to continue reading the rest of the volumes. The story follows a species of gems with the protagonist being Phosphophyllite. She is unique in her own way and starts to discover that the world is not as simple as it seemed at first. The world starts to unravel in front of her and as the reader, it is a fun journey to experience and find the truth out about the world. I would not say it is the best manga I have ever read but it is definitely engaging enough to want to know what happens next.
