In feudal Japan, the evil Lord Akinari rules the prefecture with his private troops known as the 7 Spears. These trained assassins, highly skilled in Ninjutsu and sorcery, abduct women for Akinari’s personal pleasure. When the 7 Spears massacred the Hori clan, only seven daughters survived. Together, the women swear an oath to avenge their clan using the powers of Kunoichi within each of them. With the help of the sword master Jyubei Yagyuu they travel to Aizu to slay their enemies! Based on the novel by Futaro Yamada.

A brilliant hidden gem but there's a catch

You need to know what you're getting into ahead of time with this movie.
On the positive side, this is visually stunning. Parts of it look lifted right out of a Japanese classical painting. It's incredibly stylish and exciting. It also does a better job of feeling like a live action version of a great anime than most live action movies of this kind do.
Sounds awesome right? Well there's one big flaw: The plot. This movie is exhausting to watch. They cram an entire TV series worth of plot into a 2 hour window. Often sacrificing things like establishing shots, character introductions, and backstory. It can be confusing and you won't remember everything that happens.
Overall, I think it's well worth a watch. If you understand that it's going to hit you with a lot all at once, I think you'll be very surprised at how great this movie is.
