A Good Ending Story for the TV Series
by MKY -
Polygon Pictures which produced the TV series returns to animate this movie, and the updated battle(s) scenes with the CGI is vastly improved from the older show. A new corps of pilots fly the Tsugumori Mecha Type 19, while another series called the Tsugumori Type 20, and the Tsugumori Custom II for pilot Tanikaze is being developed for the battle against the Gauna creatures for the 'Planet Nine System'.
Considering the movie is 110 minutes long, fans will definitely feel the presentation as 'Rushed' as I did. Still, the movie is recommended for the improved CGI battles, the ongoing love story between Tanikaze/Tsumugi, the battle from within involving traitor/scientist Ochiai, and liked the way how Kunato and Tanikaze come to terms with each other for the final battle.
The extras section includes a 15 minute recap of the TV series and also some trailers that hint of a "Farewell to Sidonia" teasers that keeps you guessing on how it all ends.
movies bad, anime good!
by yoko
this one hurt a little (a lot?). everything leading to this was done by sentai. this movie was made by funimation newly annexed by sony. note the time b4 the original and this movie. its almost never good for a continuation when that much time transpires. I couldn't watch this to the end my first time. I rewatched everything prior b4 watching this for the first time (except movie1: only a recap). gave this 3 stars only because everything but the movies for this anime are amazing.
