About Kanokon The Girl Who Cried Fox TV + OVA Collection DVD

This Kanokon: The Girl Who Cried Fox collection contains episodes 1-12 of the TV series and 1-2 of the OVA.

Kouta, a country boy who lives with his grandfather, is moving to the city to attend high school. Changes come with his new home and new school, but nothing could have prepared the gentle young man for girls, specifically a bombshell fox spirit named Chizuru! As if her aggressive advances weren't enough, he also catches the attention of a frosty wolf spirit named Nozomu.

Kouta is dragged into supernatural events as a result of his contact with the two girls, and his school life only gets more chaotic by the day. But with a girl who gives "foxy" new meaning and another howling after him, things are looking up for his love life.

Interesting premise and not a bad harem ecchi anime.

by -

To be honest the art style is a bit iffy, the subtitles are a bright ugly yellow, that being said the story itself was funny, and there is ecchi a plenty, it doesnt come close to the gold standard of Highschool DxD or testament for a "light" ecchi show, and there is actually a romantic conclusion at the end, which sets it above most. The DVDs comes with a few bonuses which is pretty much pure fan service.

that being said, I couldn't get this to play on my PS3 OR PS4, I had to play it on my PC, and I have the right region Playstation systems, so be careful with this.

Silly Fanservice Series, badly mastered DVD-R discs

by -

The TV series is basically extreme fanservice seeing how close it can get to full-on hentai. It's fetish-y, the plot is lame, and inconsistent writing is the only thing keeping the characters from actually having sex. At least the acting is good.

The OVA is incongruently good--visually appealing, low-key slice of life with a focus on the less silly characters. Even the fetish stuff is more fun.

This release, though... the packaging is professional, the screen-printing on the discs is professional, but the actual discs are DVD-Rs. I have never seen that before apart from indie studios. Maybe it's a print-on-demand response to low-volume back catalog?

Whatever the reason, neither my PS3 nor my computer's DVD player will actually play the discs. They're recognized, there's data on there, but something is wonky with the mastering so the menus won't even display.

So... yeah, unless AnimeWorks fixes this, I can't recommend this set even if you like the material.

The animes good but the DVDs aren't.

I couldn't play the disks on either a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3. The disks aren't compatible for even a DVD player you have to play it on a Blu-ray player even though it's a DVD. Which makes no sense, this is one of two anime that I have bought that this has happened.

A wonderful Xebec Ecchi, if you find the right copy.

I rated this on the show alone. Not this specific release.

To any fans of To Love Ru, or Ecchi Comedy series in general, I highly recommend getting a copy of this show. It's funny and cute in addition to being made by Studio Xebec who are well known for quality animation.

The problem with this series is it's a Media Blasters DVD-only title, there is no Blu-ray version currently available. In case you didn't know: Since 2016, all Media Blasters DVD titles are print to order on DVD-R discs. Due to this, often they can not be read by anything other than a computer DVD drive, so be very wary.

If you are able to, I recommend trying to locate an older release copy with the red cover and Chizuru in human form. That alone is a hassle however, as that version doesn't include the separate OVA disc and fetches about $65 for a new copy + the OVA disc which is $50!

Either take a chance on the copy here for $37.5 + shipping or $115 for a copy that's guaranteed to work. It's your choice.
