i came to this anime thinking it would be another just some action and a lot of fan service. altho it did have both it does have a charm that hits home for me and the opening was just spot on i loved it. i can't say it does justice for the game it was still a fun experience and worth getting on a sale. if you like an anime that has a lot of girls, sea combat, comedy, and Shimakaze you'll definitely like this one!

A sea worthy adventure.

Kantai Collection was a series I knew before the anime, but I wasn't sure what to honestly expect how a game/figure line would be an anime. I honestly enjoyed it. I compared it a lot to animes like Strike Witches. However, Kantai Collection did hit a few darker points here and there.

The characters are entertaining, but I feel that this show suffers from having too large of a cast. So your favorite ship girl may not get the time you'd like or may not even show up at all. However, the show does its best to focus on a narrative. My only other complaint is the lack of other military assets, but that may take away from the show's focus. While this show is definitely not for everyone, if you enjoy the cute girls doing cute things, you'll enjoy this show.

One of the Best!

This is one of my favorite anime series!

This series has MUCH more depth than you may first think. Unlike other (mech)girl series, this entices you with appearances and then draws you in with its depth.

I am a "fan" of WW2 Pacific War and as such I knew many/most of the ships in the series. The detail and subtleties in the series is mind blowing!

I love the characterizations of the classes. The DDs are young and full of energy. Cruisers are more mature. The Fleet Carriers are depicted as wise and almost regal.

I especially loved their mannerisms. Various facets of the RL WW2 ships are incorporated into their personalities. One is deathly afraid of storms (its RL counterpart was sunk during a storm). Three have English mannerisms alluding to their RL construction in England. Etc.

My favorite aspect is how the story plays out. You soon realize where it's going and then you eagerly await the ending - how will the show handle it? (no spoilers!)

I highly recommend it!
