About Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress Season 1 Blu-ray/DVD

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress Season 1 contains episodes 1-12 of the anime directed by Tetsuro Araki.

The world is overrun with Kabane, infected humans with an appetite for flesh. While the last of humanity has retreated into fortress-like stations connected by armored trains, some remain as hopeful as Ikoma. Servicing the trains for a living, Ikoma uses his spare time to build a weapon that could defeat the Kabane. Unapologetically optimistic, he eagerly awaits the day when he can test it. When a train is hijacked by the Kabane, he may finally get his chance. But an unexpected turn of events puts him in a situation that will test not only his weapon but his own humanity.

Zombies, Samurai, and Murder Trains Oh My!

by -

An amazing anime that does NOT get enough love. It has zombies and samurai what's not to like. I love that the leader is a woman and is not at all a sex object. In fact the romance in this is super low key and doesn't involve the main character at all. They're trying to survive a zombie apocalypse in an armored train there isn't really time for romance. The action scenes are amazing and the emotions spot on. The story is concise and well thought out. If you pick this one up you won't regret it.

A zombie Apocalypse aboard a War Train

by -

A good animation spectacle featuring Samurai toting guns and swords, an armored train with gun ports/cannon mounts, and lots of hungry zombies attacking the train as it travels between stations, otherwise described as heavily armed Fortresses along the route. The two main protagonists are Ikoma (Engineer who creates a new weapon) and Mumei (remarkably skilled Ninja Girl) who both have become Kabaneri...people who develop a different reaction to the virus.

This is another Studio Wit production that focuses on action, battles, and fighting sequences as the mainstay, and did remind me of Wit's other serial, "Attack on Titan". And while the story and musical score wasn't as ornate compared to its sister show, it was decent enough for a 12-episode series.

If you've seen other great shows as "Vinland Saga", "After the Rain", "The Ancient Magus Bride", and of course, "Attack on Titan" serials by Studio Wit than you certainly should give "Kabaneri" a watch as well.
