Yon & Mu in a Proper Redo

by -

If you read the previous edition of Junji Ito's Cat Diary, then you're familiar with this fun look at new-cat owners - drawn in Ito's disturbing style, nixing the cute and cuddly with something more creepy yet still adorable. You're probably also aware that the previous edition is pretty small and gets lost next to all of those large hardcovers for other Junji Ito works. This new hardcover edition will fit right at home with the rest of your collection (and maybe even stand out a little). With terrific debossed cover art, larger pages, and a new extra interview, this was a easy upgrade.
(I cry at the last chapter no matter how many times I've picked up this book).

A fun story with a familiar Horror artist's style

by

Junji Ito's Cat Diary is a cat story that you have never seen before, paired with the horror artist's famous, realistic and garish, style.

The book itself goes through the fun and sometimes shocking life of Ito himself and his wife with his actual cats, characterized with their cute and horrific looks.

The hardcover book is more for collectors, and matches in style with the hardback, high quality, feel of the other books. Due to this, I suggest it to the Junji Ito collector who wants a change of pace from the author, but for regular manga readers, I suggest the paperback version, as it has the same story, with less bulk and price.

In conclusion, it's an amazingly fun and relatable story, in a fantastically horrifying look, while still having it's adorable moments. My only reason for having 4 stars and not 5 is due to how this is simply an alternative due to the paperback.

More Comedy than Horror

by -

This is basically a memoir about Junji Ito & his wife's cats. It's cute, funny, & heartwarming. As the other review said, the ending is quite sad, but relatable to all pet owners. The horror is played for laughs, so it's not really horror at all in my opinion. The book is very high quality & quite big for a relatively short page count. All in all, I enjoyed it!

Hilarious book with a touching story

The way Junji Ito portrays these cats is so funny! I related with his plights in gaining the trust of a cat. I recommend this version over the normal Cat Diary as it includes extra pages at the end that are a beautiful cap to this tale.
