Familias Battle

by -

Picking up where the anime left off is Volume 6 of DanMachi.

A new god has taken an interest in Bell after his accomplishments from Volume 5. He will stop at nothing to try and steal Bell away from Hestia Familia. This Volume of the novel is different than the others in their is no activity in the Dungeon throughout the entire book. It is solely focused on the inter familia battle between Hestia and the newly introduced god, and the drama of familias in Orario altogether.

Definitely worth the read, provided you have read the previous 5 volumes, or have seen the anime. (The anime is very accurate when compared to the source material, but there are 2 minor characters left out that take appearance in this volume, and previous ones, so anime only watchers that buy this volume may be slightly confused as to who they are).

Yen Press does it again, and not in a good way...

by -

Ahhh, here we finally get the long awaited "after the anime" volume, and what a GREAT story it turns out to be.

It's a shame it's pretty heavily marred by blatantly shoddy editing and proofreading. Missing words, poor sentence structure, and at least one misspelling... Yen Press, if you have a proofreader, fire them. If you don't, please HIRE ONE! the last several books they've put out have all been victim to lazy QC.

A culmination of previous efforts

by -

Volume 6 of DanMachi is the first major story after the events of the anime. While the story is largely stand-alone, it is also a capstone on Bell's previous adventures, tying together past events in a way that provides closure to this chapter in Bell's adventures.

Between all the intrigue and action, this volume reads more and more like a celebration, a victory lap touting the progress our characters have made in recent past while looking forward to the exciting adventures that will be coming soon. This is particularly rewarding as a reader, since we get to see many plot threads get resolved nicely with a giant shift in the status quo that will have deep effects on the future of the Hestia Familia.

The Best of the Series so far, and an Absolute Treasure

This volume is a reward to those who've enjoyed the story leading up to this. The action is engrossing, with an extended running-battle through the city, multiple desperate duels, and a climactic castle siege! Additionally, just about every character of note has a moment of significance, and the friends Bell has made come through in a HUGE way when he needs them the most.

As stated elsewhere, this volume is a victory lap for fans of the series, and the best of the series thus far. The translation, as always, is excellent and reads easily in english. If you've enjoyed the series up until now, this volume is a treasure meant just for you.

Manga readers

This book is an absolute must-read...

If you are a manga reader of this main series you know that this book was not covered in the new manga called "Danmachi II". You could either watch season 2 of the anime or read this masterpiece.

The anime does miss quite a lot of details so I would give this book a try!

(you also get a lot of Ais in this volume, do I need to say more? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) )

War games commence

This a thrilling volume of the light novel series. I watched the anime first and loved this arc, and of course the book is better. Everything is a deeper and more robust in the book and you get Bell's thoughts which is completely missing from the anime. The character growth and the developments in the Familia make this a can't miss arc. You may think you know the story from the anime, but there is more to be had in this volume plus the art pages are fantastic.
