An interesting look into gender and identity dynamics.
by Kyron
I don't even know why I picked this up but I can't say I was disappointed. Inside Mari was a captivating story about identity, framed and contextualized through a matrix of social identity vs true identity. There is a small twist half-way through that I will admit was a bit jarring. Maybe I wasn't paying attention because I didn't really see a build to it. That said, I am confident you will enjoy your time with this story.
An ambitious mystery worth reading!
by Nicholas
Inside Mari is often overlooked in Shuzo Oshimi's strong catalog of work. However, Inside Mari is a mysterious story that covers thoughts on teen mental health, emotional abuse, and growth and deconstruction of one's identity.
Contrary to Oshimi's other works, Inside Mari is a slow-burn mystery that builds up to an interesting twist. How will Isao Komori get out of Mari's body? Read and find out!
Low-key body-swap mystery with a twist
by Mako
This is an engaging body-swap mystery/character drama that is both slow-burn and intense. Not unlike Oshimi's other works, it takes a setup that sounds like a comedy when you describe it, but treats it as realistic drama.
Unfortunately, both of the things I liked most about it can't be explained in detail without spoiling it, so I'll just say: It's realistic and intense but not as dark overall as I was worried it would turn out to be, and the twist does something quite different with the body-swap genre.
