Not at all what I expected or wanted

by -

I went into this expecting it to be an "enemies to lovers" (sort of) yuri romance. Instead, it was very one-sided - Rae loudly proclaimed her love for Claire the instant she saw her and then wouldn't stop flirting with her and hitting on her, no matter how much Claire told her to stop. Claire's bullying had no effect - in fact, Rae had a masochistic streak and treated it like a plus. And while Claire gradually seemed to soften towards Rae, there were no nice romantic moments.

The romance aspect I'd expected was basically nonexistent, and the other characters, world, and larger story were unfortunately boring. I was really looking forward to this, and while the translation was at least good, the book was a disappointment overall.

About a 4.5 out of 5

It's a well made story that may be a bit slower than many may want. I like it.

The characters are fun and deeper than the fluff I expected. I also enjoy the humor.

Great Buy

This story follows Rei who is an isekai protagonist. PLOT TWIST. She is in love with the villainess(CLaire) in the story instead of any of the princes. She constantly tries to get closer to her as the story goes on and eventually Claire does soften towards Rei. This story offers a great LGBTQ+ rep and while Rei comes off as a little rude and pushy, you learn she only does it because she truly believes Clair will never love her and only want to remain by her side. I would recommend to anyone who doesn't mind slow burns cause the romance will not come until later but it's still a great read. The cover is also super cute.

More Than I Was Expecting

I bought this on a whim while perusing other yuri related content and actually thought it was supposed to be a manga. Lol. I gave it a read anyway and was very surprised. I love how the author builds up to the relationship between the two main characters as well as the the world around them. They incorporate not only the bubble surrounding them, but the social and political impacts on their statuses and relationship. I loved it so much I was already ordering the second book before I finished the first. Highly recommend this series for anyone looking for slow burn with actual plot and subtext.

Lacks everything

by

The writing itself lacks everything except FMC Rae's overabundance of smothering one sided lackluster love towards Claire, the Villainess. Each and every line Rae says can be summed up to "How cute Claire is," and this is set on repeat throughout the whole book.

The setting is nonexistent. You are briefly given the idea that the isekai world is an otome medieval aristocracy and thats....it. That's it! There is zero imagery to anything at all, not the kingdom, nor the academy, dorms, nothing. I ended up just using Hamefura's imagery from the anime to supplement Rae's nonexistent world.

As much as Rae finds the characters in her beloved otome game to be boring...the same can be said about everything in the book. None of the characters have any sort of substance to them just like how Rae views them. The reader will quickly forget them as soon as they are introduced.

To avid readers and anime/manga fans...it's quite bland. What a shame.
