travelogue fantasy full of marvelous creatures

by -

Heterogenia Linguistico is one of those stories that feels targeted to me, specifically. It's a travelogue narrative, except that instead of nonfictional human lands, the narrator is traveling through the Netherworld, a fantastic realm inhabited by various types of so-called monsters.

I love the way the story gives the various monsters with texture and personality, even through the reader's perspective is by necessity limited by the human viewpoint of the protagonist, Hakaba. The creature designs are top tier, too. I like that the werewolves, for instance, are depicted as giant dog people rather than having a more conventional humanoid nekomimi design. (The only exception to this is Sukiko, the half-human half-werewolf child who serves as Hakaba's guide and translator.)

So yeah, if you like fantasy stories outside the conventional isekai mold, check this manga out!
