About The Heroic Legend of Arslan Manga Volume 1

The Heroic Legend of Arslan volume 1 features story by Yoshiki Tanaka and art by Hiromu Arakawa.

In the prosperous kingdom of Pars lies the Royal Capital of Ecbatana, a city of splendor and wonder, ruled by the undefeated and fearsome King Andragoras. Arslan is the young and curious prince of Pars who, despite his best efforts, doesn't seem to have what it takes to be a proper king like his father.

At the age of 14, Arslan goes to his first battle and loses everything as the blood-soaked mist of war gives way to scorching flames, bringing him to face the demise of his once glorious kingdom. However, it is Arslan's destiny to be a ruler, and despite the trials that face him, he must now embark on a journey to reclaim his fallen kingdom.

Wowsa...

Wow, I am so glad I was able to find this series.

This series is amazing! I am a major history buff, that includes religion and ideology (and specifically am fascinated in the medieval world) and this I got say, is pretty gosh darn brutal in it's wars, battles, and story of the political nature of the world!

Great artwork, that shows fluid action, great characters that all compliment one another, each that has their own reasons and you can actually sympathize with the villains at times.

Like the medieval world of Europe and that of the Middle East at the time, the politics were harsh and ridiculous ("Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.").

HAHAH! Monty Python!

Here you have the inquisitions, political backstabbing, ideologies, and the idea of kingdoms.

I highly recommend it.

The Start to a Heroic Tale

A great start to an interesting story! And as always, Hiromu Arakawa's art is a sight for sore eyes. The one downside is Kodansha's issue with small tears on the spine :/
