About Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid DVD

In a tale more faithful to the original Hans Christian Andersen story, The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale at once familiar, but also darkly different.

When Marina looks up, she doesn't see the sky; she sees the world of the surface. As the youngest princess of the undersea kingdom, she's always longed to see what lies above. Stealing her way upwards during the dead of night, the mermaid princess finds the man of her dreams as he sails across the dark sea. But one encounter, no matter how dramatic, isn't enough for her. Marina visits the sea witch, and begs to have her fishy tail replaced with human legs.

As the story goes, the princess must pay with her voice - but also agree to a condition. If her prince does not return her love, and instead loves another, then she will turn into foam!

This is the first official Region 1 DVD release of the full, uncut 1975 anime version of one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved fairy tales, The Little Mermaid! For the first time, U.S. fans can watch the full movie with the original Japanese audio with English subtitles, along with the long-lost uncut English dub. Both audios have been cleaned up pretty nicely, with the Japanese version being far superior in regards to audio quality. The English version was cleaned up as best as could be done, with only a few instances of a fuzzy background sound. All in all, a very satisfying release. However, the only special feature is the original Japanese trailer.
