Yet Another Beautiful Slice-of_life Story Featuring Hakumei and Mikochi
by Nathan
What I love most of all throughout the Hakumei and Mikochi manga books is the rich, colorful feeling of the setting, and this volume likewise enriches the culture of the tiny yet vast world that the two girls live in. The very first chapter focuses on "avian mounted delivery" of all things. The efforts that Hakumei and Mikochi need to go through to prepare the gift food for the bird, and the information we receive about the harrowing trials that trainees must go through to become a "feathertop" rider, really flesh out the world and make it come to life. When rating manga series by their level of world immersion, Hakumei and Mikochi rise up above the rest. The art style is also nice, and I especially appreciate the bonus artworks that the author included at the end. Oh, and I appreciate the translation notes at the back; it's always nice to have these appendices, as I love learning more about the intricacies of Japanese culture.
