A remade favorite.

Guyver, I don't know all the the history, but I as far as I know, it started in magazine, became a full fledged manga, that had a limited number of volumes translated to english, but continued in Japan. the first movie, Guyver: Out of Control has only been released on VHS. Later, they came out with an OVA, on VHS and then on 2 DVD's. Two live action movies were done as well, Guyver and Guyver: Dark Hero and now the latest release, goes a full 26 episodes taking it farther in animation that it has gone in the original releases. I think it is a highly creative series with a whole new view of the human race and a new interesting look on Bio-Tech. I'm a long time fan of both anime and paper and pencil RPG's. this is one of my favorite, original series. I've collected all the english manga and the animated releases. I think this series is well worth it.

A Fun but Lackluster Reimagining of a Classic

by -

I had a passing familiarity with the Guyver franchise through the live action American movies based on the series from the 1990s, and through things I had read about the original manga and anime online, so I was looking forward to seeing this adaptation.

Unfortunately while this anime starts out strong, its story starts to deteriorate more than half way in. Too much attention is given to the in-fighting among the villains, and ultimately two minor villains end up stealing the show from the main antagonists. The result is an unsatisfying final battle and ending that not only underuses an interesting new gimmick for the franchise, but also leaves a ton of things unresolved.

In spite of this, the series was still a fun ride that's worth watching at least once.

If You Like "Batman: The Animated Series", Then You'll Like This

This 4th incarnation of " The Guyver" [Manga, Original anime from the 90s, & the 2 live action films before it] is the most faithful & engaging of the bunch. This show is in the same vain as "Batman: The Animated Series", being it's pretty dark & depressing in its subject & has no fluff around showing violence or character moments that carry the plot forward.
The 3 disc blu ray set features 4 episodes of English dub commentary, trailers, clean op/ed, & a comparison of all incarnations of the character of Guyver Feature. The show blends sci-fi & superhero elements into a plot that builds on each episode to its conclusion. It definitely has the feel of an American show more than an anime, which isn't bad.
