Golden Kamuy Manga Volume 1
About Golden Kamuy Manga Volume 1
Golden Kamuy volume 1 features story and art by Satoru Noda.
In the early 20th century, Russo-Japanese War veteran Saichi Sugimoto searches the wilderness of the Japanese frontier of Hokkaido for a hoard of hidden gold. With only a cryptic map and a native Ainu girl to help him, Saichi must also deal with every murderous cutthroat, bandit and rogue who knows about the treasure!
“Immortal Sugimoto,” a survivor of the assault on 203 Meter Hill during the Russo-Japanese War, now scratches out a meager existence in the post-war gold rush in the wild frontier of Hokkaido. A chance encounter in the woods puts a map to a hidden fortune of Ainu gold in his hands, but Sugimoto is not the only interested party, and everyone who knows about the gold will kill to possess it!

I bought this not knowing what to expect but I can say I'm glad I ordered it, the story caught my interest very fast as it touches on themes of discrimination and vengeance and I can't wait to see where the story is heading give it a try that's all I can say.

Very rare that new (newly translated to the USA (officially)) manga piques my interest, AT ALL! Enter Golden Kamuy, and WOW! This is exactly my kind of manga. No kids, no schools, no generic things that have become the norm of so many mangas. Very unique art style (almost all my favorite manga has distinct artwork). Golden Kamuy is a MUST for anyone who isn’t into school manga or the hero being some kid. Though, admittedly, how is Jotaro Kujo from Jojo part 3 17 years old??? Anyhow, can’t wait to get my hands on more of this superb manga—story, characters, and artwork on point! I know 11 volumes are out in Japan, so I have a ton of excellent content to look forward to!
Must Read Seinen

So with the anime coming up i decided to fully read my copy of Golden Kamuy Volume 1 after sampling the first chapter a while ago and thought i'd talk about it.
I've got to say, that was a damn fine read. Wow was that fun.
The action is great and some of the fights are super good. The art is simply beautiful and works so well with the snowy landscape. I cant say enough how much i really love the art. The story is great but the art is on another level.
So, Golden Kamuy's first volume is an absolute must read. And with the anime coming up in a few months, there's really no better time.
TRULY AWESOME MANGA!!

Everything about this manga is awesome from the characters, story, action, art, comedy only when needed as it should be, and as the story progresses you learn about the Ainu culture which is very interesting!
A Lovely, Well-Researched Seinen

Great story and great product!
I've begun to collect the manga after watching the anime, and while the anime is absolutely gorgeous, it just can't capture some of the priceless, emotive expressions like the manga can! The credits in the forward also show the impressive amount of work the mangaka put into researching the Ainu peoples. If you're looking for a Seinen that's not too moe and not too manly, or if you're a bit of a history nerd, this is the manga for you!
This manga has it all!
This is a wonderfully written and well-researched historical fiction, but don't let that page full of references at the end scare you into believing this is some kind of text book disguised as a manga. It is a visual feast; every sensory requirement is hit with Golden Kamuy!
This is high adventure, thrilling heist, engrossing ethnobiology, wild survival, meditative slice-of-life, and yes, even a delectable food manga! The luscious backgrounds give a credible depth to the world. Satoru Noda obviously cares a great deal about creating veracity in the emotions and actions of the characters he has created. It shines through in the beautiful art and riveting action.
The harrowing man vs. bear battle that binds our two main protagonists as they set out in their adventure is worth the price of admission. This first volume grabs you by the collar and doesn't let go! Hinna! Hinna! Highly recommended!
