A great first volume!

This was absolutely fantastic! I did indeed felt "swept away" in this unfolding Yokohama romance and absolutely thrilled to dive into book two!

I wouldn't say I was expecting a "fluffy" read when I first started, I WAS fairly surprised at some of the topics that are presented. We are seeing prejudice (even among family), lack of self-confidence, loneliness, and almost assault. (Thankfully someone intervened on that last one!) I didn't quite expect these things to play such a large role! I think, however, it makes this story more compelling due to the times we live in today and something more than just a story of boy-saves-girl-and-they-fall-in-love kind of thing. Nothing wrong with that mind you because I enjoy those stories a lot to be honest, but this felt more heart hitting and relatable.

Overall, this was a very strong first volume! I'm super eager to keep reading this story and hope there are wonderful things in store for Maria! <3

a little sad...

I am invested in this manga now. I want the MC to achieve happiness! The mystery about who her father is, is also very interesting. I kind of don't like the male lead but at the same time, IDK if that's just his personality or whatever but I'll go with it for now. I love the setting too!

The potential to become a new favorite!

A Japanese woman had a love affair with a westerner, who has left Japan. They had a daughter together, with golden hair and blue eyes. This manga is about the girl.

The mother is so abusive towards her daughter, at times it was difficult to read the story. She is ashamed of her affair so she makes the girl dye her hair, hang her bangs in her face, and avoid meeting others' eyes. She constantly berates and belittles her and has her such an anxious mess she can barely function. Her self-esteem is so low that she can't believe anyone would be able to tolerate her presence. So when rain washes the dye from her hair and a boy sees what she looks like without the disguise, he is stunned but also becomes protective of her.

My heart just broke for the girl. I'm hoping her mother gets taught a lesson and I'd continue reading the manga just to see it happen. But a relationship is slowly blooming between the girl and the school boy so I'm interested to see their romance develop, too.
