Gokudo is great.

A fantastic little show that's akin to Slayers and Louie the Rune Solider but definitely stands a shoulder above both of those shows! I recommend this to all fans of anime but especially to those who love 90s slapstick comedy.
A Disappointment...
by Matt
I was actually really excited to see this show. I had seen ads for it all the time and it looked like an interesting show. However, when I finally got around to seeing it, I was disappointed to say the least... I should probably explain. This show is split into 5 separate stories surrounding the adventures of our hero Gokudo and his friends. The first story and the last story were actually a lot of fun and totally worth the watch. The second and fourth one weren't bad but not great. The third story, which happens to be the longest one, was stupid and boring and totally killed the momentum of the series to the point that I can't recommend this series to anyone. Such a disappointment.
Almost an instant classic

A couple episodes in, I fell in love with this show. From the old school style, to the scene transitions, and the breakaway comedy, this show was an instant classic that I was surprised didn’t hear about it until now. It started off great with 3-5 episode arcs, but then halfway through, it started the fourth arc which ran for 10 episodes. This arc started off promising, but in my opinion, just dragged on and kept introducing more characters and plot points. It did bring it back up with the last 3 episodes, but with the previous arc not doing much for me, kinda didn’t make the finale all that special to me. I also didn’t much care for the main character. He really didn’t have any redeeming qualities. In all, this show started off strong and does have it’s moments throughout, but I feel like it had wasted potential with not exploring more into the main characters and plot points presented early on. I kinda recommend it.
Decent Series

Gokudo is a 26 episode anime series. After looking for fantasy related anime, Ingave this one a try. The series starts out good, and in terms of fantasy there's magic throughout, and one of the main characters is a Jinni. Gokudo and friends do meet a sphinx, a dragon, and various magical beings. But if you're looking for more mythical being references, it falls short. The main character Gokudo is not very likable, the other characters have more redeeming qualities. Animation is low-quality, and characters are drawn in a generic style of the time. Story is lighthearted and comedic, it never takes itself too seriously. However, the 4th part killed the series for me. The whole body-switching became confusing and convoluted. The last 3 episodes are enjoyable, but not enough to save the series. Its a good thing I rented this series, it's not worth buying. There are better fantasy anime out there.
