An improvement over the Arise OVA
by Russell
This is the conclusion of GITS: Arise. As a big fan of all previous GITS anime I found Arise frustrating in that it didn't seem as well written. This film is a little less confusing. Arise had great fight animation, and this movie surpasses that. Also, it ends right where the 1995 GITS film starts. Why do they keep suggesting that these stories take place in the same universe? They did that with SAC:2nd Gig also, where the ending was the same as the beginning of the manga.
Also, it seems like this movie explained some points about Arise that previously were only explained in the booklet (like the nature of the twins). I've already gotten used enough to this dub that Chris Sabat doesn't sound "weird" as Batou anymore, which is kinda strange.
I'd say this movie is definitely worth it, in fact I almost wish I could recommend you watch this movie instead of Arise, but unfortunately it is enough of a "sequel" to that show that that's probably not advisable.
Different version of GITS

It is a whole new bred of GITS that is exciting. This movie gives a new view about the GITS world. It is a very action packed movie worth watching.
end to a prequel definitely worth watching

This movie is not a stand alone story, and is a very well done and satsifying conclusion to the prequel story began in the GitS Arise ovas.
Prequel stories usually fall short of the quality and enjoyment of their originals by focusing on purely action or making the characters' personalities unrecognizable. However, this prequel builds a solid story and follows the characters as they grow into the personalities we've seen in the original story lines. The action sequences are very well done and contribute to the enjoyment without being the dominating feature/focus of the movie.
The end leaves us at the same point as the story of the original movie made 25 years ago. It's a good transition and connection.
The conclusion to a great series

As I've reviewed in the other ARISE prequels of GITS, I still prefer the original 95 film and the SAC series that followed. ARISE is its own different take on GITS, like the difference between a Ferrari and a Lamborghini: both are great, both are fast, both are dreamy, but they're each different. That being said, this film wraps up the ARISE series into a seriously kick-ass film that is definitely worth the purchase. I got it in Blu-ray, and the visuals are stunning and surreal. If you're a GITS fan, you gotta get this one.
