Getting Along in Japanese DVD 9
About Getting Along in Japanese DVD 9
Getting Along in Japanese: Coping with a Misunderstanding is the ninth lesson in a DVD video learning series which presents the Japanese language through familiar daily situations.
The setting is a traditional Japanese inn where the hosts teach their guests to communicate using practical and current expressions. Hosts Katsuya Kobayashi and Kaori Itakura introduce spoken Japanese through carefully dramatized skits designed to help beginning students learn to cope with everyday life in modern Japan.
Episode Nine presents new language for handling misunderstandings that may occur in daily situations, in this case at the office. The skit shows a young woman who is accused of neglecting to hand a document to her boss. Office etiquette is very important in such situations and viewers are introduced to polite expressions and honorifics used when addressing one's superiors. Subtle nuances in Japanese are presented along with new vocabulary useful in describing sequences of events and cause and effect.
Students practice variations and new grammatical patterns are introduced. Mr. Kobayashi then invites two students to learn how to name the days of the month and then quizzes them on how to read such dates in Japan's hiragana writing.
Each DVD can be viewed straight through or in separate chapters, allowing access to individual segments for helpful repetition and easy learning.
