Enjoyable series but poor disc encoding

Genshiken takes a different but fun approach to the interactions of a college club filled with various types of otaku. I like the way the stories focus on how the members are portrayed as incrementally growing as people. It shows even more in the following two seasons.

The only reason I give the series only 4 stars instead of 5 stars has to do with the way Media Blasters mishandled things when they compiled the first season during the time they almost went out of business and eventually lost many of their anime licenses. Media Blasters didn't properly encode the discs for the Genshiken DX version of the first season. The result is that not all blu-ray players recognize the format of the discs and give play error of blank disc. I had to watch these discs from my PC DVD drive. Perhaps another company will pick up the license to this series and reissue the set with proper encoding.

Great Series!

The first season of Genshiken which introduces an amazing college club who become friends through a series of events while enjoying their college life. I personally have to say this season was the one to catch my interest as I carried on to love it in its entirety.

Good anime, bad quality dvd release

Series is pretty good, has given me more than a few laughs and though there is some ridiculousness, a good amount of what is shown is true otaku life. I'm unhappy with the Media Blaster release; as mentioned in another review the discs are coded wrong, I believe they are in fact Dvd-roms and needed to be played on my laptop, would not work in my Xbox360, unsure if it will work in a regular dvd player.

It doesn't play.

I love Genshiken. But this DVD doesn't work on anything I own. I'm gonna try buying a DVD player since it won't open on my computer and won't play on any of my consoles.
