Felt I had to write a review

I'd like to start by saying that this anime is definitely for ages 18 and over. I consider it to be rated R for DLSV. For me, it's not something I want to watch again.

The set of discs I received did not have all the extras listed on the description page of this website, and the cover graphic was slightly different, though it is from Funimation and contains all the episodes. The only extras on my set are director interview, Kato voice actor interview, music video, textless songs, and trailers.

I thought this would be more of a science fiction story, but found that it didn't have a whole lot of plot or substance. It is all that the description says and more regarding violence, language, sex, etc. but the story goes nowhere. They try to moralize at the end, but don't succeed, in my opinion.

Probably the best thing about it is the animation itself - very high quality from Gonzo. That's about it.

Never seen the live-action movies, but I love this anime!

Gantz is like a rock video: it's fast paced, filled with action, sex, violence, mystery, and it moves along so quickly with such great entertainment that you'll end up binge-watching it all the way thru. (I know I did). Story is wild: dead people get turned into dopplegangers and get a second chance at life by playing a game where they have to kill aliens hidden among society. If they win, they get to live to fight another day. If not, they die permanently. Yes it's for adults, and yes it's a little weird. But its definitely got everything a great anime should have. I loved it all, until the dog died. But hey, he was technically dead already. And the verbal abuse that the GANTZ sphere gives to each player is hilarious. Music is great too!

Bad anime

This is the worst anime I have ever seen. The pacing is god awful, the characters are terrible, and the story goes nowhere. Don't bother spending your money on this. I bought the ADV release years ago and wasted a lot of money, and hours of my precious life.

Worst Adaption for the Best Manga

This anime makes me sad. The Manga is probably my favorite of all time while this Anime is probably the worst adaption I've ever seen. The 1st season is basically up to roughly volume 4 then the 2nd season completely veers away from the plot in the manga. While reading it goes fast but the show is very slow paced and meticulously adapted every single moment from the first 4 volumes. I like that they did that but it just threw off the entire pacing and made it super boring. In my opinion the manga doesn't get really good until the 6th volume, so you really don't get into the good stuff in the Anime. The plot second season is just lame, the show is reduced to a Battle Royale(the movie) type of plot. If you really don't wanna read I'd suggest watching the first season and then picking up the manga from Volume 4 or 5. Don't even bother watching the 2nd season. Overall a missed opportunity to make an Anime worthy of one of the best mangas ever made. 2/5 stars

Phenomenally dark anime

It's bleak, nihilistic, insanely graphic but SOOO satisfying. My repressed teen angst was never happier.
