About GATE Blu-ray

GATE the complete collection contains episodes 1-24 of the anime directed by Takahiko Kyōgoku.

When a mysterious gate suddenly appears in Tokyo's Ginza district and begins spewing armed warriors and flying monsters, the world is thrown into turmoil. Although the deadly attack is thrown back by Japan's Self Defense Force, there's now a new and entirely unknown land on the other side of the portal, and Japan is effectively at war with a nation on the other side.

Determined to secure peace, the JSDF must send an armed force into the Gate, but ogres, dragons and a ruthless Empire populated by elves, humans, and half-animal warriors aren't the only dangers they'll face. With the resources of two worlds at stake, the balance of power on both sides of the Gate is destabilizing, and betrayal can come at any time, from any quarter. There, trapped right in the middle of the ensuing firestorm, stands officer Yoji Itami and the JSDF's Third Reconnaissance Team as they plunge into the GATE.

good job on the English dub

Great show

I watched this on Hulu the beginning is a little muddled but as the story unfolds it becomes clear so be sure to watch it twice. even thought I have seen it think it was great fun so will buy it just loads of action comedy and great story line

Best use of the Military ( in an Anime ) I've seen in a while

I'm enjoying this one so far!
I enjoyed the mesh-up they did in this one with the Modern Military ( albeit the JSPF ), Harem,
Medieval Times, Sci-Fi, Fantasy.

I did oh so love the little Apocalypse Now bit, and the Paratrooper Airdrop ( being former 82nd Airborne myself )
If there ever is anymore to this one, I'll be all-in for it

Japan is great.. or something along those lines

Quick sum up, a gate opens in Ginza and out come an army of Roman Design and Mythical creatures.. only to be pushed back by the JSDF in a feel good Japanese are awesome mentality and can do no wrong.

Okay that last part was just a little snarky but lets be honest this series definitely has a nationalistic tone to it.. even border line recruitment or propagandist in nature.

In all reality though this series has some stretches from how other countries are depicted (US, CHINA, RUSSIA) and how the Japanese don't react the same.. which had me eye rolling (WW2 nuff said)

But even with all that the series kept me entertained and with the appropriate detachment from reality I can look at it in a favorable light.

Pretty good for what I would consider an more Otaku oriented show.. between the 900+ year old goth loli, Cat Girls and other Demi humans that show up.. it's actually really hard to not think that.

All in all it kept me watching for its full 2 season run.

A Military-based Action Story with Heavy Politics and Bits of Comedy and Romance/Harem-building

GATE is about a 33 year old male otaku named Youji Itami, a soldier in the JSDF (Japanese military), who gets caught up in a battle that takes place in Tokyo when a mysterious portal appears in the Ginza district and an army of humans and monsters (typical fantasy world people/races) rushes through it and attempts to take over. After surviving the battle, the JSDF enters through the portal (called the Gate) and secures land to use as a base on the other side and starts investigating the new world. Once the rest of the world on our side sees/hears about all of this, international and domestic politics start to play a major role in the story.

The story involves LOTS of politics, the occasional battle, and some comedy, romance, and semi-low-key harem building that goes nowhere (though some non-harem romances among secondary characters are successful). I definitely recommend watching this anime.

pretty good, love it so far!

Seen it before but going to watch it again. This show makes you excited to see how modern technology and fantasy collide. I enjoyed it 100% and tell people all the time to watch if that's what they like. 5 stars.
