Cute little box with great extras
by V -
First off, before getting this set I thought it was going to be in a huge chipboard box but it is in a regular box nearly the same size as the slipcase over the bd's. So there are many options to store it on a shelf. It will fit right in on a shelf next to any other bd case altogether or without the extras. The three little figures are really cute and heavy. I can't wait to have the whole set to put on the stand. When not on display, I think all the figures and stand will fit in this one box, but the art on the box is really nice so I doubt I will get rid of any of them. Three art cards are included too but with different art than the box or case. Anyway, this remake is a dream come true for so many fans, I'm glad to get a set with such great bonus items.
Wonderful New Adaptation

I'm so thrilled that we're finally going to get ALL of the Fruits Basket story, & from the 5 episodes I've seen, I'm very impressed! The animation is cute, character designs are great. The voice acting for the dub is fantastic; almost all of the original cast return. I can't imagine anyone other than Laura Bailey voicing Tohru! The only character voice I'm missing so far from the old show is Hanajima. Her new voice is a little higher pitched, but she gets the job done. I also would've loved to have an English opening song like the old show.
For this particular release, I'm a little underwhelmed with the LE. The resin figurines are ADORABLE, but the outer box is flimsy, & the faux wood stand feels cheap. I plan on arranging the figurines on my shelf without it. Hopefully the final volume of the show will come with a chipboard box to house the other volumes.
Overall I'm satisfied, and I'll continue to get the LE's for the cute figurines. I want to put the Rice Ball, Cat & Rat together!
Great show but overrated LE

An amazing adaptation that simultaneously pays homage to the original content while providing a fresh uptake, the show itself (thus far) gets a 5/5.
However, in terms of the product itself, like another reviewer, I was split half-and-half between disappointment and joy. Normally I prefer having a nice box set over various sundries, but those figurines! They are SO adorable and pretty good quality, as they are made of rock. They almost made me overlook the fact that the outer box is extremely flimsy - similar to the durability of a softcover notebook - and the wooden stand does not seem capable of bearing the weight of all the pretty figurines. I would have preferred a sturdier chipboard box to house the entire season, but alas. I just hope they don't come up with multiple different LE releases...
Overall, as a huge Furuba fan, I think it's worth the purchase for the cute figurines.
Fruits Basket finally gets a reboot
by MKY -
The updated Fruits Basket anime will follow the original manga storyline...which consisted of 23 volumes. The previous FB went 26 episodes, or covered about 8 volumes of the manga. In short, only 12 members of the Souma family members were seen in the 2001 version of FB, and I am looking forward to seeing all the family members of the zodiac in this series.
This LE set recieves 5 stars for the anime, 2 stars for the flimsy box and Faux stand, and 5 stars for the resin figures. Tohru as Onigiri was a nice addition, and the Rat and Ox figures are exactly as seen in the anime. Clearly, it will be great to have "The God" and "Kyo the cat" added as figures, so not only will all 14 characters of the zodiac be revealed in this anime series, but I'll be fun to collect all of them as well!
A bit pricey, but nice

The reboot cuts out a lot of the humor that was present in the original series but incorporates details from the manga that will allow the story to go that route (as much as I love the original anime, it could not have continued on and remained true to the manga). I actually like the Japanese VAs more than the English this time around, but the English VA commentaries and extras gave me nostalgic warm fuzzies. The figurines included with this LE are simple, adorable, and have a nice weight to them. I'm not as wild about the stand, which appears to be thick folded cardboard decorated to look like wood - not up to the same standards as the figurines. I also very much wish that Funimation hadn't broken Season 1 up into two parts - this boxed set didn't end at a very good spot.
I don't know that this new series will end up having as much a place in my heart as the original, but it's still nice, and the included figurines are cute, if a bit pricey.
Amazing Show & Great Extras

I have been a fan of this series for so long and to see it finally get redone is fantastic. The animation is absolutely beautiful and the story is amazing! I was also pleasantly surprised with the extras. I've always wanted to have a zodiac set and now I do!
