Watch this only after having viewed FB Seasons 1-3
by MKY
I only recommend watching this movie if you have already seen "Fruits Basket Seasons 1-3" as the first 25 minutes of the film contains recap scenes of the TV series and contains numerous spoilers from season 3.
While I don't care for recap scenes, the movie is still highly recommended for good closure for the TV series. The aesthetics of this film is indeed heartwarming. But is also tragic and melancholy in its presentation at the same time.
Loses a star for the un-necessary recap scenes, but rest of the film is remarkable for leaving viewers with multiple heartfelt reactions.
A Fruits Basket Prequel Film That Delivers!
by Anime-Aint-Kid Stuf
The highly acclaimed Fruits Basket series certainly has many fans, (male and female alike.) So a prequel film is quite exciting indeed! While before we did get to know Tohru's mother quite a bit through accounts and flashbacks, in the film we get to see the world through her mother's point of view! Not only that, but up to now we have not gotten to know her father Katsuya very well and we finally get that chance!
The biggest downside though is that over a third of the film is recycled footage recapping events before the new content starts. I would rather they put the new material into 2 OVA episodes rather than forcing a film out of it by including recycled footage.
Overall though it is DEFINATELY worth seeing! Be warned though, as one can expect from Fruits Basket, it's tough to make it through with dry eyes! 😭
