About From the New World Collection 1 DVD

From the New World Collection 1 contains episodes 1-13 of the anime directed by Masashi Ishihama.

Born into a world a thousand years in our future, Saki and her friends Satoru, Maria, Mamoru and Shun have lived their entire lives in what seems to be a perfect utopia. Not only is their small, idyllic community overflowing with clean rushing water and abundant green foliage, but almost all technology has been rendered irrelevant by the magical power of "Juryoku," the psychic ability to materialize anything one desires. But when Saki discovers a long-lost artifact from the past, the facade of their world is shattered and the cracks that split the foundation of their reality threaten to swallow them whole!

Faced with a bloody secret history of how their world really came to be and thrust into a nightmarish new paradigm, Saki and her companions are confronted with dangers they never knew existed and a series of choices that may change the fate of every intelligent creature on the planet - human and otherwise!

Underrated Gem!

by

Don't let the cover and theme description fool you, this is not some kiddish adventure love story. I actually passed this up the first time that it aired thinking the exact same thing, but after reading reviews, i'm glad I gave it a second chance. The first three episodes are kinda slow, but watch up to episode 5 before you decide whether to drop it. All the episodes are on crunchyroll under "Shin Sekai Yori" which is the Japanese title if you want to test it out before you buy. I recommend that you get the blu-ray if you can afford it because the colors are better, but the DVD still looks great.

Slow build, but worth it.

I will not sugarcoat it, this series starts out very slow. It is not painfully slow, but not much happens. When I first started watching the show, the only thing that kept me going was this feeling that things were off. Not hugely off, just a kind of a blink and you miss it kind of off. “From the New World” is based on a novel and you feel it in the pacing of the show. The entire series is building to the conclusion and it is a great conclusion. This is one of those series that, after finishing it, I immediately watched it again so that I could pick up on the clues laid at the beginning. It is well worth your time.

You will never look at the world the same way

I was not certain what to expect from this series but it was one of the most moving and thought provoking animes I have seen since Serial Experiments Lain. I was touch, shocked, driven on an emotional roller coaster throughout uncertain of the direction the entire time. You feel for all the characters in the story but group 1 becomes like your own family. With so many tragedies throughout; it amazes me how hope can remain til the end. Overall this is about human desires and how we poison ourselves in various ways and may end up destroying ourselves in the name of progress and also about our capacity to love and have faith and hope even when it appears hopeless. This series is a must and I hope you enjoy it. Grab your tissues and be prepared for a bumpy but enjoyable ride that will leave you thinking. This will remain in my collection as a staple for future generations.

Hidden Gem of a masterpiece

Don't be deceived

It was thanks to another rightstuf review that I bought this series. It is magnificent and like they suggested if you're able to get to episode 4 and not be interested then I don't know what to tell you. This is an amazing sci-fi, psychological thriller. It's thought provoking and once it gets started it won't stop for a second. It will have you saying just one more episode before you've stayed up all night. Give this series a chance because it deserves more recognition and praise.

Gripping mysteries in a unique post-apocalyptic world

I went into this series not knowing anything about it. At first it feels strange and throws you into the world expecting you to catch on quickly. The entire show spends it's sweet time building the world and the characters involved. It is a very hard series to put down once you've started because it spreads everything out just right. The ending is chilling and unexpected, but very smart about how it presents itself over the 24 episodes. If you are looking for an intelligent show with some mystery/horror elements, you will be in for a treat.
