About Free Iwatobi Swim Club Season 1 DVD

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club Season 1 complete collection contains episodes 1-12 of the anime directed by Hiroko Utsumi.

When you're ten, they call you a prodigy. When you're fifteen, they say you're a genius. Once you're twenty, however, you're just ordinary. Haruka Nanase has just three more years to go until he's normal, but until then, he's got an unusual obsession with water.

In the morning, he soaks in the tub. For breakfast, he eats fish. And of course, he's always wearing his swimming trunks - no matter where he goes! That's pretty strange, given that he doesn't swim much any more. Despite meeting his friends - Nagisa, Makoto, and Rin - in a swimming club in elementary school, he's never shown interest in joining a new swimming club.

The reason lies in the past, with a trophy buried underneath a condemned building, and in Rin, who left to train overseas. The past isn't so far away, however, as the four friends reunite - with Rin throwing their trophy away, and challenging Haruka to a race! What's become of their friend, and why is it that even when Rin wins, he loses?

Awesome Show, Not So Awesome Set

by -

I love this show, it has been one of my favorites since it premiered. The show is fun, comedic, and not over the top.
I play this through a bluray and the picture looks great. What gets me is the DVD menu, and the subtitles. The menu image looks stretched and weird to look at.
The biggest issue I've had so far has been with the subtitles. I don't mind subtitles. I can listen to a dub or read subs, it honestly make very little difference to me in what way I get my anime. The subs for this set really bother me for the fact that when played on your standard HD TV the subs have to re-size so much that they start to pixelate.....what?! The subs are so blocky that it feels like i'm watching an old VHS tape.....
This is the digital age! Make decent quality looking subs! It is perfectly possible. Seems to me Discotek cheeped out on this part big time.

Good start to the series

Like another reviewer, I found the menus a little awkward, the Subtitles On Off selection were pixellated and you couldn't tell what you were hovering over. The easiest thing is to Play All and not try to select a certain one.

I watched half an episode before I bought it, so obviously I liked it! The characters were all relatable and different with their own strengths and flaws. Definitely recommend!

Better than I thought!

I really enjoyed this series more than I expected too. Awesome characters and theme songs (had the ending on repeat for some time xD) Can't wait for Eternal Summer to come out!

Good, not Great.

Compared to Funimation / Sentai's dvds it's lower quality, but not by much. Crunchyroll is new to publish dvds but they did a nice job.

It's worth the price since the anime is really good and the music is great.

Finally, I can own this at a reasonable price!

So glad this came out Region 1 on DVD. Subtitles are good no complaints there, however I don't like how the subs are yellow/pixelated. It lowers the presentation of the show. I also don't like the cover art of this at all. It looks more like fan-art and not as crisp as the original artwork. If one saw the outerbox at a store, they would think this is bootleg. :/

However, the DVD image quality is nice. When watched with HDMI, the quality looks excellent. The only downside is that there are basically no extras and the images that usually show up at the end of each episode was taken out. So there no "see you next swim" at the end of each episode. :(

Great Series, Meh Quality

I love Free!, it is a better series than it has any right to be (sports (meh for me), + homoerotic moments (meh for me) + slice of life = Really good show. I'm mostly disappointed at the lack of a blu-ray release. The menus were okay, and there weren't any huge faults with it.

The show is one of my overall favorites and I am glad I was able to get it at a cheap price. The quality is great, overall I am very pleased.
