The Epitome of Action Anime!!
For those of you who want good art good story and wonderful action, this dvd is a must for your collection!!
80s Anime greatness, may not be for more recent fans

If you want to see what Anime was in the 80s, what many teenage boys fell in love with late 80s, early 90s, this is where you start.
It has it all. Over the top violence. Crazy story line. Even crazier characters. Good animation. Lovingly bad English dub. Post apocalyptic world. Mad Max on steroids.
Coming back to it now, without the Glasses of Nostalgia on, you see a lot of missed potential and poorly executed story, but that adds to the appeal for me.
It's a fun run of popcorn fodder, something that those that loved it will still enjoy, but not really something I'd recommend to fans raised on Anime of the late 90s - 00s if they aren't looking from an Anime History perspective.
Fun, worth seeing for historical context, and a great DVD release.
THIS is a classic?! I beg to differ.
FIST OF THE NORTH STAR: THE MOVIE is bad. The presentation is schlocky, the characters are uninteresting and mono dimensional, the story is nonexistent, and all around, it's just not a good movie, period. It's dull, it's uninteresting, and basically minute after minute of bloodsplattering violence. Perhaps part of the problem might be squashing down a 100-episode series to a full-length movie, but either way, I found it to be very detestable in every way. The Streamline Pictures dub is even more abominable, featuring dull, wooden, robotic turns from everyone involved, staccato, rushed, Shatneresque dialogue, and, like the movie, is genuinely boring. It's one of the worst dubs of all time. There are far better movies to invest in than this unpleasant film.
Textbook Oldschool Anime
Fist of the North Star the Movie is brutal, bloody, post-apocalyptic, and unapologetic, however, its tone isn't depressing. This head-exploding hard drug is laced with hope. If you are mature enough to handle the violence and gore without allowing it to warp your own mind and actions, then grab this well-regarded classic and go on a selfless journey with Kenshiro through a wasteland loaded with desperation. Sure, the effects haven't aged well, and yea, deeper, more complex anime have surfaced since its creation, but this art created a wave in its time for a reason.
