A Clip Show in Disguise (Review of the Film Only)
The opening 20 minutes of the film is the only real highlight of this movie, as it boasts some of the E7 franchise’s best animation. Without spoiling too much, it shows the First Summer of Love and the parts that major characters in the TV series played in that event. The opening is easily the best part of the film.
The rest of it is little more than a compilation of remastered stock footage from the 2005 TV series. It’s arguably worse than the 2009 movie except that this features perhaps the most aggravating use of flashbacks and timeskips I’ve ever seen in a film. Whoever edited this should be suspended without pay.
The film adds little to the mythos that isn’t in the TV series. Renton and Eureka's relationship is barely covered. If a newcomer watches this, one would never guess that Renton had any love for her at all. For a mecha series known for its romance, there’s hardly any.
Watch it only if you want the E7 fan's nostalgic rush. If not, don’t waste your money.
Dont listen to the 2 star review
Saw this in the theater when it came out end of last year. First 20 to 25 mins is really good tells you about the events that happened prior to the start of the original anime and how the first summer of love happened. Then the rest is kind of mash up of scenes and stuff that happened during the anime. It does get confusing even if you have watched the original anime to follow what is happening with the way they put the scenes together. Overall i would give the movie its self a 3.5 or 4 out of 5 stars. This movie is only the first movie out of 3 HI-Evolution movies that are coming out and Bones the studio who made Eureka Seven even said that this is supose to be a re-telling of sorts of the anime not a continuation.
Great first movie
I saw this movie when it was in theaters at the end of last year the first 20 to 25 mins show the events that lead up to the first summer of love, what was not shown in the original anime. After that it's a little confusing. Cuts to Renton right after he jumps out of the swan and from there its alot of different scenes from the anime and flashbacks as Renton narrates. Overall I would give this movie a 3.5 or 4 out of 5 stars. But understand this is the first of 3 Hi-Evolution movies and it's NOT supposed to be a squeal. Bones said it's a reimagine look on the Eureka Seven original anime with a different ending then the anime coming for the 3rd movie. If your a true fan of the anime it's worth your time to watch. I loved it even if it was confusing trying think of the timeline of when stuff happened compared to this movie. Just a heads up the next 2 movies will be just as odd. Taking into account the teaser trailer for the second movie.
